I got this movie stuck in my head and I can't seem to pinpoint the title.

It's a vampire film about a teenager. He turns into vampire. Some guy contacts him, shows him how to cope with being a vampire, tells him to use animal blood to tame himself. Meanwhile, vampire hunters are amok and trying to find him and slay him (they use a van). Everything works out in the end, I guess, and his vampire helpers turn into wolves at the end. It is either from the mid to late 80's or early 90's. I remember watching it a lot on television when I was younger. A good portion of the film takes place at night.
