http://www.mtv.com/videos/movies/343653/ex...son-break.jhtmlSome of the earlier trailers gave the fans of the comic book some hope that it could possibly be good but this seems to spit in the face of those expectations
This looks Joel Schumacher era Batman bad

I think you're all over-reacting. It's one clip that was also overly dramatised in the graphic novel.
This bit of cheese certainly doesn't trump
this,
this,
this,
this, or
this.
Anyone expecting an exact translation to film, well...you're an idiot.
Not only do movie makers have to appeal to a larger audience (See: V For Vendetta. Changed some things, still a great movie.), but the run time is already near three hours AFTER they cut out the Black Freighter and Under the Hood, both of which will be released as separate DVDs and included in the "director's cut" version of the DVD.
Nothing I've seen has made me think this movie will be anything but a good adaptation of Watchmen. I'm not expecting an exact translation, but from everything I've seen, it'll be pretty god damn close.

i'm saying it looks like total horseshit because it looks like total horseshit, not because its not close to the graphic novel that i havent even read
the last thing i would want is an exact translation to film because then i would get more shit like The Da Vinci Code [which to be fair is an awful book to begin with but i hear that the novel before Jaws was fucking terrible so the quality of the source shouldn't have mattered, a good filmmaker can get around or improve that]
those other clips look pretty bad too honestly, pretty generic and just as cheesy as the first clip, and since it looks like snyder is again going to abuse the hell out of slow motion, those actually made me even less interested
i would wager the only people who would want a completely faithful adaptation are the ones who don't want this to be made in the first place, all i care about is the film itself and right now i couldn't be less interested in it

Eh, none of those clips are too impressive. I hated V for Vendetta, it was completely limp dicked and they neutered the message in an attempt to make a dumbed down political statement against neoconservatism. It was pretty typical Hollywood blockbuster fair.
I'm a bigger fan of the original V for Vendetta than I am of Watchmen so I have different expectations for them.

The good news: Reviews form geek websites with authors that have read and love the book are saying that it's an almost entirely faithful adaptation to film, with the exception of the changed ending. (And the consensus seems to be that the new ending works better in the film medium)
The bad news: Some are saying that it's precisely the fact that it IS so accurate that makes it a bad movie. The stream-of-consciousness style writing is faithfully reproduced, the movie faithfully jumps from character to character like the book does, etc. However, in the medium of film, some of the lingering thoughts meant to provoke in the graphic novel are lost because a reader of a book can stay on a panel and focus for a while, jump behind, jump ahead, etc, while in a movie you have to just keep watching.
Consensus from geeks seems to be: Geeks like us will love it, but the casual audience will probably hate it.

My review:
From the standpoint of a movie fan: Great. Fantastic.
From the standpoint of a fan of the graphic novel: Good. Not the book.
As far as adaptations go, this is the most faithful adaptation of a comic/graphic novel I've ever seen. Very few creative liberties were taken. Even the changed ending you hear some fanboys whining about ends up being very minor and then it follows the script from the book almost exactly. So it's all the same...y'know...inna' final analysis.
Of course, a few good things were omitted for time constraints. They kept them as pretty minor things though. If you aren't caught up in panel-for-panel, word-for-word accuracies, a fanof the graphic novel should enjoy the movie.
Slight spoilers ahead. (VERY slight.)
The only thing they didn't leave in that I wish they would have was Rorscach's psychologist's story. His prison visit was in (condensed to one visit instead of the two in the book), but I thought the therapist himself made for a good sub-plot in the book.
The actor that played The Comedian was fantastic. It's a shame that they condensed my favorite part of his backstory for time reasons. While trying not to spoil anything for anyone that hasn't read the novel...that part on Mars with Dr. Manhattan, Laurie and The Comedian...it was condensed and didn't give you the same "The Comedian is human too" feel the novel did, although the movie still managed to accomplish that in other ways.
Black Freighter and thus the resulting news-stand scenes surrounding them were cut out, but according to Zach Snyder, they'll be placed back into the movie on the extended/director's cut DVD.
End slight spoilers.
Final note: for anyone worried about Snyder...Snydering it up with slo-mo, it was in, and it was noticeable, but it didn't have the same "god dammit not everything has to be in slo-mo" feel as 300 did. It was used to a good effect in this film. Same for the soundtrack.

I never read the graphic novel nor am I a big comic nerd. I enjoy your basic movies like Spiderman and X-men, but I have to say I did not enjoy this movie whatsoever. I was very confused and the stylized editing just made it seem like they were putting a dress on a dog turd;however, I can definitely see how someone who's a fan of comics or the source material would thoroughly enjoy this film. So take my opinion with a grain of salt because I didn't really have any expectations or knowledge of Watchmen before seeing this film. I can certainly respect the director's choice to make a great adaption, even at the casual movie goers expense. If they ever did a Atlas Shrugged movie or some other difficult book to movie adaption, I'd hate for them to bullshit their way through it and give us something like how I Am Legend turned out.
Again, I didn't enjoy it or understand certain aspects of it, but I can see how many others will.

if they had to recreate the entire book, they would have to make it into 2-3 movies. That would suck. My only beef is the music score. Could have used some more obscure music.

I like the music choice. All movies have obscure, original music. For instance using Simon & Garfunkel for the funeral scene was really cool.

I liked the music score as well. I thought that was probably one of the most well done parts of it.

The music score was excellent. It was varied and fit well in unexpected means.
I enjoyed the film, but felt, while watching, that there was a lot of back story I was missing. The movie was also long.
