I was really surprised when Mickey Rourke won the Golden Globe for best actor. I saw it and I didn't think it was too great of an acting job. It's essentially Marv in spandex. But I was also very happy for him when he won, like jumping for joy happy. It's just great to see a story like that be fulfilled. It would be a shame if he hadn't won at least an Oscar or Golden Globe.
The story itself and everything about it is raw and it succeeds in that aspect. However it didn't blow me away. I guess it's because I had really, really lofty expectations after seeing its RT score. It debuted with 100% fresh out of 45+ critics if you didn't know. Now it's at 98%, 125 fresh reviews and only 2 rotten. Then again RT isn't a barometer of how great a movie is, just how good a movie is. Iron Man was a good movie but it certainly wasn't the greatest. I thought Spider Man 1 and 2 was better than that movie. But I digress.
Marisa Tomei was a pleasant surprise in the film *wink wink*.
The movie was tough but fair to the wrestling industry. I give it a B+.
