Just finished watching a DVD screener of the Wrestler. Mickey Rourke was fantastic but I feel like he will be typcasted as the loveable old bum for the rest of his career now with Sin City and now this movie. I like it so I give it a Thumbs Up.

The International was horribly disappointing. The lone action scene was amazing however. This movie makes me want John Woo to return to America!!!
The International (2009) - 2/15/09 - Skip it

Liam Neeson does a Steven Segal-esque film here. It will be refreshing and a good movie to see for many simply because it is Liam Neeson and not another 90's action star. Plus it is in the same vein as Bourne Identity + Payback + Ransom. I would have loved to see the R rated version though. Nothing special to see but I know many people will like this movie which is why it it a box office success.
Taken (2008) - 2/28/09 - See it

I couldn't finish watching the second half. It was way long, story developed very slowly. Kate Winslet's nipples are fucking gross. Pacing so slow. Winslet's acting was fine but this was simply not my cup of tea. If I had watched it in theaters I would have finished. But I was watching on my laptop and after seeing the first part, I couldn't watch the second. Huge snorefest.
The Reader (2008) - 3/3/09 - Must Skip it

Totally eccentric and not at all what I expected. A movie that really makes you think. It can get slow at times and I have been watching the clock 3 or 4 times during the movie but all in all worth it. All the characters were great in their own way. The pink box scene and the last scene was truly amazing. There were other scenes too that stood out. The concept of the play is all in all great. Reminds me of Being John Malkovich (not just because of Catherine Keener) and The Royal Tenenbaums.
Synecdoche, New York (2008) - 3/5/09 - See it

I happened to watch this film on TV because of the current Mexican Drug War going on right now. Considering this film was made in 2003 and now we are finally seeing the tip of the iceberg on that problem, that shows some keen awareness on the people behind this film. With that said this film isn't very deep but rather another fun action movie. If only solving the current crisis right now were this simple. I still think it was an entertaining flick only because it involves a current event now. But if you're looking for more high brow entertainment then you should probably watch Traffic or Maria Full of Grace which is Columbian but same difference.
A Man Apart (2003) - 3/7/09 - See it

Hide the women and children! Just like 300, this film's target audience is very much so the 18-35 male demographic. This does a great job at answering religious questions like, "why is the world like this" or "what would God be like". I feel like this is not far from what I believe God to be like if there is a God. Someone of higher ability than us, but of course that still doesn't answer where would he come from. But the answer would probably blow my mind, literally. Anyhoo, a lot of great action scenes but that also means violence and a very softcore scene means this is definitely not for children. Watchmen did strike Box Office gold in the opening weekend as the Oscar movie buzz tapered off and it doesn't have much movies going against it. I thought it was brilliant except for moments of slow pacing, cliche moments and melodrama. Otherwise it was pretty amazing and you should see it if you are a young male.
Watchmen (2009) - 3/8/09 - Must See it

Was it a good movie? Yes. Was it better than Infernal Affairs? No. Leonardo DiCaprio made Tony Leung's performance look so badass and Matt Damon's version of Andy Lau look so fucking nerdy. I personally prefer the HK original over this one but it's still a great movie nonetheless.
