I was going to make a long winded post breaking down all the cabinet appointments but then I said fuck it. Anyway I'm really happy with the foreign policy team.
Master Bob
Some stuff will change, but I don't think we will see epic changes.
Scorched Earth Policy
I wonder why hes keeping Gates, most presidents put the token opposition party post lower in their administrative cabinet. He'll probably only stay in for a little more than a year at max.

Gates is pretty moderate, generally knows what he's doing, and agrees with the withdrawal policy. Switching out a defense secretary that agrees with you just for the sake of appointing one in your own party is silly when you're talking about withdrawing from a war. You really don't want to fuck that kind of thing up.
YoungWhipperSnapper
The withdrawal policy of moving the troops out in 2010 was already in place this summer so it's not like the current Bush administration was against it. Condo negotiated that one in Iraq.

Exactly. That's why Gates is staying on...consistency.
Scorched Earth Policy
Hes probably just grooming a successor since Democrats don't really have any strong defense candidates. He will probably just be in office until the summer when the pull out is supposed to happen, I wouldnt be surprised if it didnt happen at that time though. I guess Gates will make a nice scape goat in that case.

I don't see a situation in which we overstay even LONGER in Iraq. In the summer of 2010, we're going to be so out of there. Not like we're bringing that many troops home, though; I can see us putting them all in eastern Afghanistan. The region from Kabul to Karachi is pretty much the headquarters of our greatest enemies.

Also, I'm curious to see how he deals with Bush's tax cuts. Will he let them expire in 2010, or just repeal them immediately? In the big picture, one year doesn't make much of a difference economically speaking. It's just the principle: Obama needs to remain aggressive in regards to fixing Bush legislation he was so eager to attack during the campaign.
The Clown
Natural expiration of the Bush tax cuts makes the most sense economically. If Obama were to jeopardise that just to prove a point, it would be a bad sign.

aha aha aha....

I'm happy he is keeping Gates. He is a large asset in terms of defense. Whether he'll keep him for more than a year remains to be seen.

Obama isn't going to touch the Bush taxes if the economy is still in bad shape. Once the economy improves, then he'll do it, otherwise, I doubt it. I think there will be a lot of people realizing that not everything Obama said during his campaign will come into formation. Universal healthcare is one of them. This will not work (i.e. with the Keynesian job growth agenda Obama is going to pursue, it will be too expensive) in this current economic environment.

-Staying in Iraq until 2010 negotiated by Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice...check
-Bush Tax Cuts staying til 2010...check
-Another Bush stimulus package a la 2003 and 2006(?)...check

Same dog using different collar. I like dis.
merriweatherpostpavillion
You guys know he's black, right? Okay just checking.

Am I the only person who doesn't give a shit? I realize he's the first black man as president and that's quite a step forward for our country I guess, but jesus fucking christ...judge him by what he does not the color of his skin. So many people preach about race, but this is just the sort of thing that keeps the issue of race prevalent.

IT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER

this is a dumb fucking post. you have to adjust into things smoothly, you can't just pull out of iraq and fucking repeal taxes the first day you're in office.

It is not a dumb fucking post when Obama grilled McCain for being McSame. In fact all liberal psychos did the same thing. Then when Obama is doing the same thing it's ok. Yeah you just committed half of your first term to Bush/McSame policies. Fuck campaign promises.

it takes time to fulfill those promises, it doesn't take a week it takes years. if you want some instant gratification go make some ramen.

It's not about that. It is the fact that he is sticking with Bush policies as in will implement Bush policies, the same ones he criticized McCain on so much with his slander ads. It's one thing to promise this and do it within as timely as possible but he says that he won't change these things for half of his term to stabilize the country which is understandable and good for me. But to criticize so much and coin the phrase McSame and then to follow Bush policies for 2 years like he plans is just stupefying and hypocritical. Change was his biggest campaign promise. The fact that McCain is the same with Bush was his biggest criticism. Yet he will do the same things McCain will in the major things that America (democrats and Republicans) care about. That's some shit.

If Obama is more of the same, why did every Republican in the House of Reps vote against his stimulus package?
SATANIKNUKLEARDESTRUKTORKOMMANDO
why do republicans do anything

Because politicians are shitheads? Because Democrats did the same thing to Bush's stimulus package? Because they are all partisan hacks?

Pick one.

Not entirely confirmed yet. It depends on the economic situation. In all likelihood, yes, but if things change for the better, no.

The Obama stimulus package is nothing like the Bush ones.

Anyone that voted for him expecting immediate change from day one is a dumbshit. It's implied that it will take time. He even, you know, said it during his campaign and during the transition a number of times. Just because you can take things out of context doesn't make your point valid.

BTW, Guantanamo closing is not more of the same.

But it could take a year to close down! Bush might as well be in office! XD.gif

That being said, I agree with your post; shit takes time. Who actually thought that on day one Obama was going to pull a 180 on every policy we had?
YoungWhipperSnapper
Love that stimulus package! Now being signed in Denver. As far away from Washington as Obamnly possible.

Change.

Also I like how Guantanamo Bay is closing but what to do with all the inmates? The administration wants to send these guys back to their respective countries but they don't want them back. Then again they don't have cases against them so America could force these countries to take the detainees back. Or we can just give them green cards and admit them to the states. I think we can apply the Cuban Immigration policy to Gitmo detainees too.

the only difference between obama and osama is the BS!!
