Wow...this album is actually worth listening to. The single from it notwithstanding, this album actually sounds like Justice era Metallica. I'm legitimately impressed.

its metallica and its 2008. im sure it sucks without even listening to it.
Himura Kenshin
I REALLY love this album, especially after the shitfest that was St. Anger. It's DEFINITELY old school sounding Metallica.

Ok.

yeah it sounds like justice era metallica, the problem is some of those riffs are like directly lifted from justice era metallica

felt kind of stale to me, better than st anger though!!
Svyatogornyj
Not terrible. Single is good. The album is very post-2000 Iron Maiden of them, which is good.
Cody
the guitar work is decent, Kirk doesn't seem to be relying on the wah pedal as much anymore which is a plus

but the drums, dude... Lars is fucking terrible.

pounding on the snare at a steady 60bpm quarter note tempo with double bass between does not equal good.
The Clown
Yeah, Lars sucks the cock and always has. James and Kirk are good on this album, though, and they're always been the heart and soul of Metallica anyway.
18 With a Bullet
Lars has been and always will be a terrible drummer.

I could have sworn Dave Mustaine left Metallica ages ago! wink.gif

I actually haven't given this album a proper listen. I have heard a few songs, though, and I certainly won't complain if they get any radio play over Pork and Beans and whatever that terrible song about heroes and ghosts is called. need a new mp3 player baaaad

Yeah, to go become the heart and soul of Megadeth, lol. I'd take Hammett over Mustaine in the context of Metallica.

It's not their magnum opus or anything, but it's WAAAY better than what they've been putting out for the last 20 years.

As Drew Magary said on Deadspin, "Hammett’s guitar solos are back. The crummy yet lovable production values of '…And Justice For All' are back. Hetfield’s angry bark is back. This album isn’t as good as the band’s first four albums, and a couple of tracks suck (the lead single and 'The Unforgiven III,' which is the heavy metal sequel equivalent of Rambo III). But at least the band fucking sounds like Metallica again, and that’s all I’ve really ever wanted from these assholes for the past two decades."
