My roommate and I take a trip to NYC every summer, and it's about that time again. We've gone with his family before, and the other times (this one included) with a group of our friends. We've found places we like, but are always eager for input, especially from those more familiar with the city.
So, what do you recommend? Must-visit eateries, stores or attractions that are outside the normal tourist route, bars or clubs that would be worth a night at? I'd even like some live music, preferably good rock or jazz. We'll be there from Friday the 15th and leaving Monday the 18th, so anything goes for this weekend. Suggestions, go.

Try getting Yankee tickets, but I doubt it.
Hang out by Gramercy and you may see me
not likely though.

My roommate got Yanks tickets way back in March, too expensive for a team I don't follow though. Maybe if they were playing the Indians.
Apparently Aesop Rock is doing a free show at McCarren Pool on Sunday night.

Or stop for a few seconds. The first time I went to NY, I did that and then looked up and saw a sign that told me to keep moving.

It'd be more entertaining than an off-Broadway play.

What about bars?
BEAUTIFUL BEAN FOOTAGE
Aug 12 2008, 02:44 PM
Wow you really are a bit of a bumpkin aren't you? No one calls them bars anymore, they are called "pubs," due to NYC's proximity to Europe and it's distance from America. If you call a pub a "bar" in NYC you may as well ask to get mugged and raped. I'd avoid this trip if I were you, it sounds like you need to do a little growing up first.

Shit, could have sworn I'd posted this earlier. You'd probably be best off barhopping in the West Village. If you get off the subway at West 4th Street and walk along West 3rd you can take your pick of a bunch of great places. I haven't checked it out yet but my friends rave about a place called Off the Wagon.

Maybe Ill run into you Grimes. I work in Midtown on Lexington Avenue. Tomorrow is my last day there though as this internship is finally ending. If you had given me a little more time maybe we could have worked something out. I live in the Bronx and work in Manhattan so it would have been relatively easy to plan something.
