Anyone else watch it?
I think the MLS is getting rather competitive....they played very well and at times looked quite skill. They won 3-2....granted it's an all star team vs one english premiere team....but I would still expected West Ham to win.
I think Beckham coming to US is great. He's still amazing in my eyes. He doesn't have the legs but he's still a damn good passer. And he's still scoring some pretty sweet goals.
I hope MLS can attract younger stars.....I don't want it to become the league for older stars however. They need a few big cash deals to some talented stars in europe to make it seem like it's a legit league.
There's no denying the increase of talent in the MLS these last two seasons. I"m happy.

The MLS is definitely on the upward. We still have eons before we reach the caliber of the EPL, Serie A, Bundesliga and La Liga (and it should be noted, soccer is their #1 sport and they have these amazing and complex infrastructures), but compared to 1996, things are looking great.
Seattle's team starts next year, Philadelphia in 2009, and two more franchises are planned for around 2012. That will bring the league to 18 teams, which is a serious improvement.
Yeah, West Ham is a middle-of-the-table team and always will be, but a win is very good for the sport in our country. It will be very interesting to see where the MLS is in 10-20 years.

This was probably the most entertaining All-Star game this year with a 3-2 goalfest. Yes that includes the MLB game which I thought was dragging because it was long as hell and had All-Star scrubs to play the final innings.
As for the MLS I think it's a lot like the basketball leagues in Europe. NBA teams are now playing in competitive exhibitions over there. More than a handful of those games were won by European teams. A lot of Europeans there are excited by those wins. They think that it the gap is getting nearer because of those wins. Euro teams play their starters for the entire game and play like it's the NBA finals. But we Americans know it's just a meaningless game and that the NBA is really where the best players come to play. NBA teams play their subs after the first half or less and don't really care about the result. Also similiar is the players' movement to and from America and Europe. Guys like Josh Childress, some HS all-star and other decent players are now being successfully courted to the Euroleague. Meanwhile Europe is sending their exports as well. The MLS is getting some decent players from Europe now like Beckham, Angel, Babayaro and Blanco from Mexico. Meanwhile some of our guys are playing decent soccer in Europe.
I think in 10-20 years America will have more quality Americans playing in Europe. MLS will be more successful and we're probably going to dominate continental club competitions like SuperLiga. Currently we have losing records against Mexican clubs but that'll change soon. Maybe we'd have as much prestige and quality as the Scottish, Russian, Argentine or Brazilian leagues but that could be exceeded seeing how much MLS grew exponentially within the last dozen years.
