Justin has offered to let us use filenotfound.org for the forums. What do you all think of moving back to the old domain? I can't say it matters much to me, as long as the community is together but I"m sure a lot of you will think it'd be pretty cool.
Do you?
Edit: The only change that would take place would be the name you type into your address bar or your bookmarks.
Will everything from this forum just be swapped over?

I really don't care, it will be an annoyance since I'll have to make a new bookmark, but as long as all content and skins are up and ready from day one, who cares?
I guess the nostalgia will be cool...

I just got settled in here, I don't want another move. Looks like the masses are slightly in favor of going back, though.

In which case we would lose everything we had from this board and from gamedaily. A backup would be cool, but only for archive purposes, so we could harvest all our old posts.

It certainly wasn't intended as an insult Justin. I just don't make decisions without making sure I have all the information. I assumed you had plans for that domain at some point was all. Beyond forums? What about if we want to go ahead with our ideas for an ajoining website? Would you want to be involved with us? Would you expect to have a say in how we run things etc etc. Nostagia is great and I am just as guilty of it but I just want to be sure if we choose to grow in different ways we can still do that.

You should install the backup of the GD boards on fnf, make the necessary upgrades and tweaks, and let everyone decide which one they'd rather be at. Just my opinion.

The mods knew I had a backup. I know it was discussed in the mod lounge.
It's a little old (from about the time of the AOL sale), but when we're talking about years, what's a few weeks/months lost, eh?
Believe it ot not, I *do* care about the wellbeing of this community. I just don't feel the need to shout about it all the time and make proclamations that if AOL gets deletion-happy, I have a plan. I'd much rather just have a quiet plan, and then put it into action if necessary (and hope that it isn't necessary).
When the board DID go down, this place sprung up within like 3 days and none of the mods mentioned the GD backup we'd discussed. So I chose to not mention it either. It isn't my place to try and influence a board I hadn't been managing fornearly a year.
That more what I wanted to hear/read, thank you Justin. Food for thought.
What are you talking about Bobby? Why on earth do we have to make it into such a contest?

Why can't we decide what we want together as a community without trying to split ourselves?
Mr. Mojo Risin'
Dec 6 2006, 03:46 PM
I'm not saying it should be a contest...just saying that if some want to stay here, they could stay. Why can't there be both? In the end it's still the same people, just some people have a thing against Justin and want to be independant so they can post all kinds of goofy stuff.

Having both sites running would only lead to decreased activity in both. Also, I think people are still missing the fact that moving to fnf.org would ONLY change the domain, nothing else. I'm pretty sure the poll wouldn't be nearly so close if everyone had realized that before they voted. Lastly, this should be moved back to the lounge and stickied. Only 21 people have voted, and there are at least 150 different users.

There needs to be a whatever the fuck option. I frankly don't care about which domain it is a long as the community is there.

Dec 6 2006, 04:26 PM
I said no because I thought it would make the site go slower (and the error pages would be back). I know next to nothing about it though. So if this isn't so, then take one off for no.

If it's just the domain name or whatever, then yeah, let's switch it. If we can have 404 Error back and still have the community together like it is now, well then that would be great.
