Anyone seeing it? I'm not.
From what I've read about it, it sounds like another step in M.Night's downward spiral through Hollywood.

I'll see it eventually, but not in the theaters. I saw a little one minute preview and it looked pretty cool. And of course Mawky Mawk.

Critics gave it bad reviews but I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow

I'll probably rent it, but there's only one Shyamalan movie I genuinely liked and it was 8 years ago
that being said I'm a Mark Wahlberg whore

I saw this for free last night, and I still want my money back.
Absolutely awful. The previews do a good job at making it look good, but it's not. All around a successfully terrible movie. Shyamalan is good at creating suspenseful moments, but that's about it in this film. Even Marky Mark couldn't overcome the terrible dialogue.

The main actress cannot act. I'm sorry. I didn't believe her for one moment.
The movie itself was just plain silly. The entire time the movie tried so hard to be a "end of the world...oh no what will we do!" flick, but it fell short. There were some good scenes like that *no spoilers* old woman getting "infected" or when the guy lays down in front of a lawn mower (which is kinda ruined since it was in the preview). Everything else was lame.
Also, the movie was very preachy. K, we get it...pollution makes trees cry. Pssh, save your money and rent that Al Gore movie if you want to get preached at.

He seems to suffer from George Lucas syndrome. Hes a better director than he is a writer. But not by much.

???
George Lucas is a way better writer than he is a director. He's not that great at dialogue, is all.

Dialogue is a big part of the writing process for a hollywood movie, we're not talking about guys who direct abstract arthouse indie films who can get away with sparse dialoge, are we? As for Lucas, with the excception for his success with the first half of the Star Wars (and Return of the Jedi blew) franchise, his written work is questionable at best. The storyline for the series fastly went down the tubes as with the prequels (bacteria are the reason for the force?). Luckily for all the Indiana Jones movies someone else has always handled screenplay duties over Lucas.
Thats the huge problem with M. Night, he is in desperate need of at least a semi competent screenplay writer to handle his work. I'm amazed after Lady in the Water and The Village that the studio he worked with didn't force one on him for the Happening.

Yeah, I think the problem with Lucas's newer stuff is just that he's got too much power now. Nobody'll tell him no when he proposes retarded shit like Jar Jar Binks or Midichlorians.
I guess what I meant is that he can come up with some great stories (sometimes he needs help telling them), but what I've seen of his directing hasn't impressed me that much.

Maybe calling it Brian De Palma syndrome would be more accurate. He had some good critical successes (Carrie, The Untouchables, Scarface) which were written by others, and the ones he has written like Femme Fatale, Raising Cain, and Body Double are just awful. His career has kind of bottomed out too.
Raising Cain is definitely on the list of worst movies I have ever seen. Its basically a bad soap opera pretending to be a thriller.
