My boyfriend and I decided that we want to actually do something this summer, so we're looking into places to visit in the US (passport just expired). I think we want something near the ocean, so maybe California or Hawaii. I know nothing about these states whatsoever, and was randomly thinking San Francisco or something, but what can you tell me about these places? I looked into SF for four nights, hotel plus flight, and it was around 600 dollars per person, which is fine I suppose. Are there any places in Cali. that are even better? My mom lived in Santa Barbara and told me not to go there, so I'm only ruling that place out.

Oh, and we're from Massachusetts. And we're sick of NYC.

If you're willing to fly from Massachusetts to California, you might as well skip to Hawaii. Hawaii is a true get-a-away. If you like, I can tell you thousands of things to do in Hawaii that you'll never forget if you experience them. I've been to California before, but only to hang with some people I knew from there (not really as a vacation). So I'm not too useful in that area, but I don't think it'd be nearly as fun as Hawaii. Then again, it really depends on what you want to do. If you want to go to an area where there's a ton of shit to do, amazing nightlife and a beach, just go to Miami. I know it's cliche, but you'll have a good time regardless...that is, if you can stand the millions of cubans.

Don't go to San Francisco for the beaches.

Hawaii will be 2-3 times the cost of anywhere else you'd go.

I'd say Miami or San Diego, maybe some spots in Texas on the Gulf Coast.

I live in California. While it's a radical place to live, I don't know about vacationing here.

If I were to recommend anywhere in California it'd be San Diego. Awesome zoo, decent beach. The water in San Francisco is colder than a witch's tit in Brooklyn, so you don't go there if you plan on doing water stuff. The place is great, though, for itself. Lots of cool stores and sights, Alcatraz, etc. I really like the feel of San Francisco.

But, just so you know, people here go on vacation to Hawaii all the time, and they love it. I don't think people from Hawaii vacation in California very often. If it were up to me, I'd definitely say Hawaii.

Also, four nights in a hotel and two roundtrip flights for 1200? Would've thought it'd be way more expensive.

I've actually had plenty of good times in Santa Barbara. Lots of college kids around so there plenty of clubs and bars to fucked up at. Last time I went, we went skydiving in the afternoon then hit the main street at night.

I'd definitely hit San Diego tho, plenty of stuff to do there.

hawaii is pretty slick

I can answer questions too, if you have any.. (shitty hotels, good places to eat, etc)

Basically I want to go somewhere where we'll be entertained, where we can see the Pacific (neither of us have ever seen it), and where it's not super expensive. I'll look into Hawaii a little more. It sucks because my aunt lives there but she just fled to Vermont because she's in the witness protection program, no joke.

Seattle is really nice and fits your criteria for your trip. Its definitely cheaper than any place in California and Hawaii. Don't let the weeaboo douchebags at this board who live in the area turn you off from it, its a nice place.
