Well, we're ~2 months away from the DK release.
What's everyone's feelings, etc?
I personally haven't been this hyped for a movie in a long while.
Also: potential first review? (haven't gotten around to reading it yet)

I watched Batman Begins last night in preparation. I'd forgotten how good that movie was. Almost wish all those other shitty ass Batman movies hadn't been made so that they had free rein to do whatever they wanted with these newer Batmans.
I'm gonna be at some family thing all weekend, though, and probably won't get to see it for a while.

That was...that was almost damn near as close to perfect as a comic book movie can get.
Ledger's performance was far better than anything I expected and watching the path of Harvey Dent was just...it was just fucked up to watch a hero brought down to his lowest, lose everything and then nearly bring everyone else down with him.

Jul 18 2008, 03:14 AM
Yeah, that was so good I honestly don't think they even need a third one. if everyone walked away I'd be okay, especially with Ledger dead, which is such a shame, because I'd pay even more money for just a movie between Batman and the Joker. I loved the dynamic between them. That's what makes them special in the comic, and they nailed it in this movie.

Jul 18 2008, 05:12 AM
That...was fucking amazing. I'm still blown away. Best superhero movie ever and one of the greatest film and acting achievements in history. I hope they don't make another because they'll never top it.
Unreal. Both Ledger and Aaron Eckhart were fantastic and the the depressing, nightmarish atmosphere of the movie was absolutely chilling.

Jul 18 2008, 11:03 AM
Wow, I don't know what to say. This is the best movie I've ever seen fucking period. This was just amazing...I mean when they caught joker with the first bike scene I was like, nice sweet movie...but that was just the half way point.
Heath Ledger...I don't think anyone will ever EVER do a better joker performance. rest in peace my friend because you went out with what is quite possibly the best acting I've ever seen. I mean, a lot of monologues in comic book movies are there because that's what villains do, but I normally don't care for them....but I hung on to every last word of jokers. The crowd I saw it with were laughing at his jokes too, unlike the corny laughs in Spiderman 3. I also loved how Joker NEEDS batman....and doesn't want to kill him. That was a great setup and makes sense.
ANd Harve Dent.....I'm sorry don't know his real name. JEsus christ...I felt like I was watching Oedipus Rex...it was such a great tragedy. Did anyone else think when they were watching Dent's performance that, "Hell, this guy could be batman in these movies...they were like clones but with different hair."
WHen I watched Batman Begins I thought, "Wow, great acting by scarecrow. Will a villain ever be portrayed better?" I also thought, "Man Bale took the acting to another level."
IN this movie he didn't take it down a notch at all, but Dent and Joker's acting were even better.
I'm still in shock on how good that was. I'm pissed I have to wait 6 months for the DVD.
This movie just barely passed Episode III (I Know you guys hate it but I loved it) and Gladiator as my all time favorite. I Didn't even realize Two Face/Dent was in it till two nights ago LoL...I didn't research the movie at all.
This movie's all star comic book cast made up for the shit spiderman 3 was. I thought Green Goblin, Sandman, Venom would be amazing...but they ruined that series for me. This movie makes me forget about the shit that is SP3. Hell this movie makes Iron Man look like nothing.
Great movie! 9.7 rating on IMDB...never seen that before either.
MINI SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Edit: Ugh, I don't want to stop talking about this movie....anyone else agree they were sold on how good the movie was in the first 10 minutes? That opening scene was fucking genious. I won't ruin anything yet, give it a week...but still, "I'm supposed to kill the driver" LOL!

My thoughts exactly...most super hero movies I"m like...can we get back to <insert superhero name>. Not in this movie, the characters/acting/sotry was so interesting I didn't care who we were following.
I can't think of a movie in a long time where I didn't care what the main character was doing. And that's not to say Bale's acting/story was lame...it's just that every other scene was amazing.
Also the fighting/noise affects were really well put. I loved the choreography of the fight scenes, very batman-comic-book-esque. I loved the way he'd manipulate people's first attacks and blast them in the neck, ribs, kidneys....very well done.
MY only beef with the showing is I had to sit second row! It was hard toappreciate some of the fight scenes because you can't take it all in....which will be fixed immediately when I see it again in a few weeks.
SPOILER/SEQUEL DISCUSSION________________________________
ALso, do you guys think they will make another one? I think it's over after this one...Joker's in jail (ledger passed away). I assume Harvey died after that fall because didn't they show them honring his body at afuneral or something? I hope that was a fake and they have him locked up so we can have a sequel though. Morgan Freeman quit, which kind of upset me...extreme times call for extreme measures. And they ended it with a feeling of, "he'll always be a vigilanty, but we still gotta love em" kind of ending that doesn't need a sequel.
What do you guys think?

I'm guessing Dent is still alive and Two-Face is the next villain, though Bale has also mentioned The Riddler.
One thing about the movie was that I appreciated every scene and the entire film for how great it was, but Ledger dominated it so completely that even during scenes he wasn't in I found myself kinda thinking "OK, c'mon, what's Joker up to?"

I'm quite sure Two-Face is still alive. They made a pretty big point I think that Harvey Dent is dead, which is a common theme in the comics, and that his body is now simply just Two-Face. Plus, Batman survived the same fall with a gunshot wound, and don't forget when Sal said that he could survive a fall like that, and it was pretty much the same height that Two-Face fell down from. And there wasn't a casket. AND that would have meant that Batman had killed, technically, something which they didn't play up at all, and they probably would have.

Isn't Bale contractually obligated to do a third, whether or not Nolan signs on? I'm sure there are ways around that for him though, especially if it looks like Warner Brothers can't find another director.

it would be a shame if two face was dead. they did say that they wanted him to be remembered as a hero and werent beyond faking gordons death. maybe him and bane or something, if bane were done right and not as a mindless stooge he could be just as terrifying as the joker
there are a lot more villains though, i wouldnt mind seeing some already used in the last franchise like mr freeze if done as he was in the batman cartoon, but he might be a little fantastical for nolanŽs gotham

I believe the technical term is.. "Oh my fuck..." It ruled. In every sense of the word and a couple senses of other words.
On the subject of a third movie...well, in order to get another movie, we need another villain. So far, each Nolan Batman has had two main villains and focused on one of Batman's struggles. First movie eliminated Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow. This one took Joker and Two-Face. Even if they reuse villains, I'm betting the only one they'd even touch at this point would be Two-Face. Who's left?
Catwoman? Possibly an interesting death after the end of the Rachel situation, but I think the flop that was the Catwoman movie will prevent this from happening. Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, so on? Most are ones that are "too silly" or "too unrealistic" for the new films. My bet would be Bane. Maybe Penguin, if they ditched some of the eccentricities and focused on him being a mob boss from hell or something.
Personally, I'd like a third movie to focus on Batman trying to keep up with a whole city by himself. He's hunted by the people he's trying to protect. He's got a new crime ring that he hasn't dealt with moving in(Penguin). Some wackjob in hunting him, trying to kill him(Bane). He's left with no allies other than Alfred and Gordon, and they can only do so much. What does Batman do when the whole world is against him?
Sounds pretty lame, but I bet that Nolan could pull something ten times better out of his ass in a heartbeat.

There shouldn't be a third movie. The problem exists that with Batman Begins being they're own origin of Batman and them going away from the comics, the only logical next step is to base off of a comic book.
The Dark Knight Returns.
Taking out the parts about The Mutants gang and USSR invading everyone, you are only left with the Joker becoming a celebrity.
Wouldn't work as a movie. Especially without a Joker.
They would have to continue in they're own universe and pull a villain out of their asses.

This movie was great, especially for a hollywood blockbuster!
There were only very minor problems in suspending my disbelief. Like...joker being waaaay too resourceful, or the rushed development of two face (They spent too much time on Harvey Dent).
But those didn't get in the way of it being a fantastic movie. And here I was, thinking Spider Man was the shit.

I was confused on how resourceful Joker was too and how smart...but that just added to his craziness.
I was cool with the time on Dent however, he was amazing.
Anyone read the batman comics in the 90s? The one where Bane sets up that huge plan on batman by releasing all the people from Ark Sanc....and then at the end he fights batman and breaks his back paralyzing him and that other guy has to come in and be batman for a bit? That's one of my favorite comic book stories, I have most of the set...that would be a great movie for the future....would require two movies though and wouldn't fit with these, but that would still be great.

I don't think they need to base the third film off a comic, there are a couple of villains they can use no problem - Scarface, The Riddler, Black Mask....
I mean if they really wanted to get nutty they could go with Calendar Man...
Going with No Man's Land from the comics would be a great story too.

I totally agree. Bane is a villain that has intelligence...he is very methodic in his ways. In Bat/Rob he was a f'in meathead.
Sidenote: Did you know the guy who played Bane actually died a year or so late from steroid overuse? True Story.
And in all honesty, I don't care if they make a third one. This one ended well and there isn't a new one necessary....why not go out with a bang. I think all comic book movies should end once they face their main villain. And JOker is Batman's counterpart.
I always felt that Venom was Spiderman's....(although I know the argumentt can be made for Green Gob, but I think Venom was cooler).

I think the Black Mask and Bane would be great for a third one. Black Mask isn't iconic enough to carry the movie, but he would fit perfectly into a sequel since they need someone to head up the mafia and he is a good fit for the realistic direction. They could play up the knightfall angle with Bane for an end to the series.

I enjoyed it. I feel like I'd say the same thing if he were still alive, but Ledger absolutely nailed the role. He was perfect and did great justice to such a legendary character.
The end felt like a sure setup for a third movie, and that seems to be the trend these days anyway. I agree that there was a lot of Dent and not enough Two-Face. I think they should've just given a peak at his descent into madness and used him in the next film, but since they didn't, I'd prefer he be dead. Might be too hacky to use the "oh not rly dead lol" angle again.
I think Black Mask or Penguin are the best choices for a future villian. I feel like Riddler would be too hard to do well in the Nolan tone, and Batman & Robin absolutely ruined Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy and Bane. I don't know if anyone is iconic enough to do too well though, but perhaps I'll be proven wrong.

It was alright. Ledger's performance was fantastic, of course, but after the movie ended, I felt dissatisfied. The whole Two-Face story was unconvincing; I don't believe Rachel dying is enough to really cause Harvey Dent to become Two-Face. The way the movie told the story made me not care at all that Rachel was killed... I basically forgot she had as soon as it happened. It was a good movie, but I don't feel it lived up to any of the hype.
