It was alright. Ledger's performance was fantastic, of course, but after the movie ended, I felt dissatisfied. The whole Two-Face story was unconvincing; I don't believe Rachel dying is enough to really cause Harvey Dent to become Two-Face. The way the movie told the story made me not care at all that Rachel was killed... I basically forgot she had as soon as it happened. It was a good movie, but I don't feel it lived up to any of the hype.

I don't think it was necessarily Rachel's death that sent Two-Face completely over the edge, it was more of a general feeling of hopelessness that he felt he couldn't save Gotham, or that they wouldn't care. Rachel's death was a cause for his revenge, but not completely why he went insane other than confusion over why he was saved instead of her. His scarring and his disgust towards Gotham were more of why he turned so villainous.

I think Eckhart did a nice job of conveying that. People have been split on his performance but I thought he was fine. Rachel's character has always been a throwaway character anyway, being that she's not in the comics, so I really didn't pay attention to her bits and enjoyed the rest of the movie for being as awesome as it was.

See, I think the movie did a good job of hinting towards the fact that Dent wasn't as good as everyone thought he was - first there's the fact that all of the officers would call him Two-Face (not something you call someone without good reason) and second, because of the way he was ready to flip shit on that Joker goon he had tied up.
Da Bears
I don't see how the Two Face story was unconvincing.

I liked how they had more Harvey Dent rather than Two Face. They actually developed his character well. I'm tired of super hero movies that just start with a villain or the character becomes the villain in the first half hour. I thought Dent's role was the most difficult in the movie and he nailed it.

I think Ledgers performance was great, but it was great because of the style of Nolan's movie and the writing, there are plenty of talented actors I think that could have done just as good as job with Joker in this movie. We were gonna like Joker I had a feeling before the movie even started. I will give props to Heath though, it was a fantastic performance.

But Eckhart's performance was more difficult. I knew he would be two face so I didn't want to like his character as a good guy...but he sold his role so damn good that I was actually mortified when he turned into Two-Face and I felt sorry for him.

The image of The Joker walking away from an exploding hospital in a nurse's outfit is the most beautiful thing I've seen in recent memory.

i dont think morgan freeman actually quit because he specifically said "as long as this machine exists at wayne enterprises, i dont want to be here", and as soon as he was done using it, it destroyed itself

so maybe he changed his mind

i'm pretty sure he changed his mind, because the narration at the time said something like "and their faith rewarded"

oh and am i the only one thinking the riddler could happen

the accountant who found out batman's identity... mr reese

mister reese - mysteries - riddles ?

i agree that two face isn't dead, they probably have him locked away but they needed the funeral to tie up story lines and keep the white knight image of dent

Everyone keeps saying that but not only is it a bit of a strech (and retarded at that) it doesn't even make that much sense. If the guy wanted to get Bruce Wayne by the balls, he wouldn't have to plant little riddles to do it.

...and there's the fact that the Riddler's name is Edward Nigma but people see and hear what they want.
BEAUTIFUL BEAN FOOTAGE
Riddlerīs real name is Edward Nashton, he changed it to Nigma. And I donīt think a guy named E. Nigma would work in Nolanīs Gotham anyways.

Saw it last night. Ledger was great, really was a scene stealer. Eckhart I think was amazing though.

SPOILERS I GUESS

When he actually turns into Two-Face, the guy behind me started going on about how it was the Riddler, even though Gordon was calling him Two-Face at the time this guy just wouldn't give up with the Riddler thing.

Sounds like he was dyslexic and his only exposure to the character was through Batman Forever

OR it was a guy being an asshole.

Was the guy talking black? Legit question.

My favorite part was when the Joker stole the cop car and he had his head hanging out of the window enjoying the breeze. Just the music and sheer awesomeness of that moment gave me the chills. He may be crazy as fuck, but he enjoys life more than most sane people. It spoke a lot to me for some reason.

That was a great camera angle...I was dissapointed a classic shot like that (it would make a great poster) was given away in all the commercials. but oh well they have to entice people, still doesn't take away from that shot.
merriweatherpostpavillion
Agreed. At least after witnessing Ledger's amazing performance, it made up for it and gave it more of a meaning.

Edward Nashton is already in the Nolan Batman mythos, so to speak. In the viral marketing for the Dark Knight, Nashton is a reporter who keeps trying to convince people that Dent isn't all he's cracked up to be. David Tennant (currently Doctor on Doctor Who) wants to play the Riddler very badly, apparently.

If there is a third movie, I don't, personally, think that the Riddler would be a good choice. Unless there's some sort of philosophical means to it all. This movie really hit home with it having a meaning behind the actions, and I can't really see something deeper than Joker's desire to prove that people can be asses being played out by the Riddler.

If you want a villain with some sort of weird neurosis, I say:

Hugh Laurie as Temple Fugate (ha, my absolute favorite Batman villain)
someone as Wesker and Scarface
someone as Mad Hatter, preferably keeping the manic depressive and pedophillic tendencies intact.
a more eco-terrorist take on Poison Ivy as opposed to retarded I'M A PLANT HURRRR view.
possibly Holiday but it might be too late to progress into that

also I'm gay for Firefly :3

Please, for the love of God, do not ever, ever, ever put the following in the movies: Catwoman, Bane, Freeze, Penguin, Zeus, Manbat, Killer Croc, Killer Moth, or any incarnation of Clayface with magical powers. Shit characters are absolute shit.

Bane is far from a shit character...what's not beleivable about someone on roids? Much more beleivable than half the shit batman does in the new one.

Catwoman, Freeze and Bane...shit characters? Wesker and mother fucking Scarface, the god damned Clock King...good characters?

I wouldn't have a problem seeing Wesker and Scarface in the movie as throwaway goons that Bats dispatches within the first few minutes, but I'm still of the mindset that Black Mask is the best choice.

Deadshot would be cool as shit too but since that'll never happen I'll to just rewatch Batman: Gotham Knight.

Catwoman is fucking boring. No one fucking cares.

Freeze is too fucking Saturday morning. LOL COLD AS ICE. TIME FOR THE BIG FREEZE. CHILL, BATMAN. etc, etc. It's just too fucking easy. Ahnald ruined the character forever.

Clock King is awesome, fuck off :|

Addendum: ALSO! Use fucking HARDAC. I shat fucking bricks whenever he appeared in the cartoons.

Batman & Robin in general was too campy. Mr Freeze can be made into a believable villain with depth. Nolan can introduce moral relativism with the moviegoers being sympathetic to Mr Freeze. Mr Freeze wanted to save his wife rather than get riches or power. I remember watching the Batman cartoon made in the 90's and Mr Freeze was different than all the other villains because of that. Mr Freeze can be done in a more sophistacated way than the one Arnold portrayed.

Also, I read the Killing Joke a couple days ago and I have to say it's magnificent. I could see the heavy influence Nolan got from that comic. Joker's motive for crime and the entire interrogation scene was taken directly from this comic book.
loveless
I think I just have an issue with characters like the Riddler and Freeze because it's like

OH MY NAME IS VICTOR FRIES. I AM DESTINED TO BECOME A COLD-RELATED VILLAIN.

OH I AM EDWARD NIGMA, I AM DESTINED TO BECOME A MAN WHO ASKS RIDDLES OR POSSIBLY A PORN STAR.

man, imagine getting nailed by a question-mark shaped penis by some guy named E Nigma.

fapfapfap

also, I never got the obsession with Freeze from the cartoons. I actually was watching Heart of Ice when I got back from seeing the Dark Knight last night, and it was like... meh. NOT EVEN YOU CAN MELT THIS HEART. I HAVE NO TEARS. boohoo. yeah, he is tragic, but I can't get passed the overall campiness of being a fucking cold guy in a suit. I'd like him a lot more without the suit. I dunno.

I just fucking like the Clock King. He was badass, you ingrates. T_T

Yeah in like one graphic novel from the 80s, and that aspect hasn't been carried over into the regular comic book lineup since then

the latter, 'crunchwrap supreme'. :3

Actually, my knowledge of 'batman' results from the old 'tv show' that I 'used' to watch on the 'television'. the characters that I 'liked' the 'most' were the 'ones' i listed. i liked 'temple fugate' a lot, 'sorry' for having an 'opinion'. i can't 'help' what i do 'like' and 'don't' like.

'sorry', 'babe'.
