Ok, long story short, I've got 2 grand coming to me in early January. My comp is starting to get old and slow, so I was thinking of just buying a new one, but then my uncle made a great suggestion. I'm going off tro Rutgers next semester, and having a labtop which I can bring to and from school and do everything on with definitley be a good idea, and I could also use it at home when my comp started to crap out. Maybe transfering stuff from the one in my room to labtop could free up space or whatnot and make the comp run smoother (i'm not the smartest man on the subject of computers). The campus has wireless internet access alot of places too which is sweet, and i've got a wireless router at my house too, so it does have it's benefits.

Ok, so i've $2,000 to spend, spending less then $2,000 would be great, but I gotta do what I gotta do. I hear labtops are a bitch to upgrade, so i'd want to get one good enough right off the bat to alst a while. So, now for the questions

1.) Where's a good place to get a labtop from? I was thinking going with Dell since they've never done me wrong in the past, although getting a good one from them is slightly pricey. Then I was thinking maybe gateway since i've also never had a problem with one and they are a little cheaper. I know theres bound to other sites that sell them, what do you guys reccomend?

2.) People tell me that Labtops and not as good as Desktops, but never tell me why, other then I might have some dificulty playing games, which the only PC game I ever play is starcraft like once every 6 months. Any truth to this?

Thanks in advance

I'd check Home Depot for a labtop. As for a laptop, I'd get one of the new snazzy Macbook Pros. When OSX Leopard comes in in spring 2007, it'll support bootcamp which will let you dual boot XP and OSX.

I don't think I've done a very good job, judging from the above posts. I apologize. Maybe the Trash forum would be a better home for this?
