I thought they were just "porting them over". Of course, that was weeks ago, and I doubt AOL cares about getting any part of GameDaily back up. I'm pretty sure they just bought them for the domain (and maybe gamedaily biz), since the most prominent thing on the main page now is a list of Joystiq links.

It wasn't my fault!
...well, the sale was my fault.
But anything that DOESN'T turn out well or go as planned, I probably wasn't involved in. Because I'm awesome and the things that I'm personally involved in are always successful.

Once I no longer had full control of the boards, everything goes downhill. Coincidence?? I think not!

I'm not involved in any real estate thing (I'm moving across the country in the summer), but if I were, it would undoubtedly be going well. Just like everything else

I actually liked Gamedaily (the site), they had some good reviews, and fast downloads.
Now though, their review quality just seems to be failing kind of hard. And their integration with AOL sucks too. Not only because AOL sucks in general, but because sometimes they'll like me to some AOL video that requires an Active X plugin for Firefox.
Fuck that, that's one of the reasons I don't use IE, I don't want a plugin of it in Firefox.

I don't have a definitive answer, but I have plenty of speculation and rumor.
I have it from very reliable sources that the conquest of GameDaily's forums was actually caused by Gypsies. No, gypsy moths. A swarm of intelligent gypsy moths with trained grizzly bears as shock troopers. They made a deal with Dick Cheny to exchange their secret of even better eternal life and a chocolate bar for twenty minutes of access to GameDaily headquaters. They then coerced their bears to destroy anything they came across. They made it though the support staff for the forums, and fell into hibernation. The moths, furious at the failure, took matters into their on antennae and blew through the server room, suicide bombing everything in sight. That's when Dick Cheny betrayed them, and orchestrated the transfer of GameDaily to AOL based servers, porting over all data. With his companions slain, the last moth from the swarm proceeded to imitate a quail trapped in brush behind GameDaily headquarters, causing Cheny to order a tactical nuclear strike on the area. FEMA then took over control of the restoration of GameDaily to working condition, and just happened to miss the forums. They'll be back to being operational in a year. Unless they're not.
And that children, is why pot is still illegal.

I'm still trying to find out what's up.
Fake edit: I guess that isn't entirely true. I played Gears of War for over two hours tonight with the GD/AOL guys and totally forgot to ask them even once.
I could have been like "hey remember when I fucking owned you so hard and made your intrails your extrails with a point blank shotgun blast? yeah... that ruled. So WTF is up with the forums?"
But I didn't say that.
Well, I said some of it.
But not that final bit, about the forums.

I didn't answer the first time because I never bought a house, and never *claimed* to have bought a house. I made a post that was basically along the lines of this:
"here's a way to make a ton of money. Buy a house, but don't live in it. Rent it. Then the rent will cover that house's house payment and you'll be getting a free house (free equity). In about 3-5 years you can leverage that equity to buy a 2nd rental home, and at that point the ball is rolling and you're set."
I didn't do it myself for a whooole list of reasons, including that I've always known I'd be moving out of state, at which point being a renter wouldn't be possible, and I wanted to pay off my student loans before getting involved in anything like that (the first rule of investing is "don't," if you have debt), and because my job wasn't quite paying me enough to make it feasible. You need to count on not having a renter for at least three months of you year, count on investing time/money in repairs & upgrades, etc. I just didn't have the savings to cover "worst case scenario" scenarios, at that point. Still don't.
