I got my MacBook at Amazon as they don't charge sales tax like Apple.com does.
My fiancee's mom is a mac tech at the local Mac Store. I buy all my stuff from her at a deep discount. 
Can you get a student discount via amazon?
How about you save like $300 and get something that isn't a trendfag piece of shit.

I wouldn't recommend the macbook. The macbook pro is worth it, but I don't think you'll get it at $1500 without some sort of really good discount.
Other good choices at that price range: Dell, hp, and toshiba.

Macbook is great for me. I don't play games or anything on it (just Diablo 2 and Civ3). Just use it for school work and stuff, and watching videos and whatnot. If you are looking for a good size laptop with OS X it is really your only option.
