Boredom, etc.

I was listening to Daft Punk's Daft Club earlier, which is a collection of remixes of their songs, mostly from Discovery. It's pretty bad. There was a cool Slum Village remix because they actually rapped over the song and one of The Neptunes' remixes (they were allowed two for some reason) was good but that was it. Guess you can't fix what ain't broken, especially when the OGs are so good. And why are there so many duplicate tracks? How many times can someone fuck up "Aerodynamic" or "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" before the songs are completely killed? On the same compilation nonetheless. Whatever.

Now I'm listening to Jandek's Later On from 1981. Aside from the fact that every Jandek song sounds the fucking same, I like this record a decent amount. It didn't make me think too much of the typical 'make your guitar out-of-tune and sing like Huckleberry Hound' formula he's so well-known for. I'll be coming back to this one, probably while drunk.

Plenty more to come.

EDIT: This drove me to make a blog, something I've never bothered to do before. So I'll just throw the URL in this first post and y'all can check that if you give a shit, but I encourage the rest of you to make this topic grande with your own reviews from now until forever.

Yeah, as long as you've never heard it before.
Himura Kenshin
Puddle of Mudd's Famous album.

Rick Wakeman - The Six Wives of Henry VIII

This was a sweet surprise. The second track, Anne of Cleves, is now one of my favorite instrumentals. You can hear it here: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=3967

Gentle Giant - In a Glass House

Not as strong as the album I listened to last night, Octopus. But decent, at least. I'll have to give it a few more listens though. The band is definitely a hard one to get into.

Van der Graaf Generator - Godbluff

Nowhere near my first listen but it is perhaps the first time I've listened to it with my full attention and wow, this album is amazing. Peter Hammill's voices are spectacular... amazing that it's basically vocals, organ, sax, flute and drums and still rocks.

I've been trying to get into Octopus forever but it just isn't happening. A Cry For Everyone is an okay song, but the rest I can't even remember.

I heard Infernum - Taur-Nu-Fuin for the first time earlier today. I like early Graveland (Carpathian Wolves, Thousand Swords) as much as the next guy but this was completely uninteresting. Just another page in the lackluster book that is Polish metal and one I'll almost surely not revisit.

How can you not remember and like Knots? That song is so sweet, especially the xylophone solo...Haha.
The Batman
I'm listening to Blood on the Wall's album, Awesomer, which is funny because I had it on my iPod like 2 years ago, hated it, and took it off. Now I just reheard them, and I'm pretty much in love with them. It's funny how tastes change.
whats up man

Bright Like Neon Love by Cut Copy

First song on this CD is one of my favorite songs as of late. It's been stuck in my head since the first time I heard it today.

Listened to some Devendra Banhart today, after hearing songs (song?) of his that I liked on the sirius radio, but I don't remember digging it that much.

Uhhh, have fun watching the video, too.

For some reason the song makes me like it, even though I'd normally hate that style.

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend

i absolutely adore this, trying to listen to and keep up with new music this year and it's already paying off because this is fucking great

The Mars Volta - The Bedlam in Goliath

i like this album more than all tmv except De-Loused, but they are never going to top that for me. pretty good stuff, lots of energy

edit: i would like to add that the "concept" for this album is fucking retarded but i will just ignore it

I love that album. Good job.

Okay so today I discovered two new albums.

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
First of all, thank you Tiz (he recommended them). This is the polished 2008 version with an extra song or something. I like it a lot so far, but I haven't heard every song yet.

I Created Disco - Calvin Harris
Yay! It was released in 2007. Sounds a lot like Chromeo to me, and that's badass because I love them. Someone on LL described them as being influenced by LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk, and early 80s Electro. I just downloaded the full album after listening to a few songs on youtube.

Listening to both albums now. Well, in a few minutes.
Illuminar
I downloaded Untrue by Burial. I keep listening to Archangel.

Dude, I do the same thing. The first few tracks on that record are sick.
Tiz
Ayreon - 01011001

[Simone Simons]:
Dear PX, I feel you are the one
What's your name? Where are you from?
I'm in love, though we never met
Looking for clues, i search the net

Dear PX, I'm waiting for your name
Check every hour, to no avail
Been up all night, couldn't get to sleep
No way out, I'm in too deep

Dear PX, It's been 11 days
I'm kind of lost within the maze
Are you there? Give me but a sign
Are you at home? Are you on-line?

[Phideaux Xavier]:
Dear Simone, I'm sorry for the wait
I've seen your pics, you're looking great
I'm all alone, dying for a date
I think we match, it must be fate

[Simone Simons]:
Dear oh well, I feel you are the one
what's your name? where are you from?
I'm in love, though we never met
Looking for clues, I search the net

Basically.
Tiz
The Mae Shi - HLLLYH
Times New Viking - Rip It Off

both pretty good stuff.

Meshuggah - obZen

pretty boring

Svyatogornyj
I think "Goliath" is the best song TMV has written.
Dei
Radio 1's Live Lounge Vol. 2

Excellent live recordings and some nutty covers that actually turn out really well. I am listening to Bloc Party covering Nelly Furtado's Say It Right right now, it is hysterical. Edit: Strike that, Keane just topped it with a Destiny's Child cover. This stuff is great.
Paul MC Hurt Meh
Coffins

Japanese death metal.
Tiz
John Zorn - Filmworks XIX: The Rain Horse

wonderful score, i suggest anyone who likes film scores check this out [and probably john zorn's other scores but i haven't heard any of them until this one]
Zombie N-Word
Edith Piaf - La Vie en Rose
The Batman
New Breeders album FTW
Svyatogornyj
The Coral is good.
Tiz
British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?

good album but not particularly memorable; i basically zoned out and it served more as background music, but it's a good listen
Zombie N-Word
Random - Mega Ran.

Holy shit this is good. The use of the game music but remixed is awesome.

Alphabeat. Danish pop. Irritatingly catchy.

I downloaded Alphabeat a while ago...I feel the same way. Wish I could remember the name of the song I liked. I'm not home so I can't check. sad.gif

So I have been listening to a bunch of new stuff over the past week or so. I figure I'll just mention it all in this post.

The Bravery - The Sun and the Moon Complete (2008)
I wish they had released this 'complete' version instead of releasing The Sun and the Moon last year. Or I wish they had just called last year's album The Sun. Despite the fact that I think the way they chose to release it is stupid, I love it. Big fan of The Bravery, and The Moon version of each song is cool. I liked some moon versions better than sun.

Does It Offend You, Yeah - You Have No Idea What You're Getting Into (2008)
I like it. I knew I would, though. We are Rockstars is so fun, there's no way the rest of the album would suck. Interesting song titles...Attack of the 60ft Lesbian Octopus? haha I'm glad it's finally out.

We are Scientists - Brain Thrust Mastery (2008)
Blah. I was hoping they would come out with an amazing second album. Bummer. It's just boring. Seems so...stale. Though I don't even like their first album like I used to, so I guess I don't know anymore.

Paramore - Riot! (2007)
Paramore - All We Know Is Falling (2005)
I'm almost embarrased to admit I like Paramore, but there it is. Of course I don't like every song, but I'm pretty into Misery Business (though it's a bit overplayed, thanks radio assholes) and Emergency.

Metro Statiion - Metro Station (2007)
Recommended to me by our very own Frankie g. I'm not a huge fan of the vocals, to be honest, but I really like the synthyness of it all. Probably a band I will be listening to a lot.

Fleet Foxes - Sun Giant EP (2008)
Uh...kind of weird. I don't hate it but I don't like it, so it'll probably be deleted.

Hannu - Worms In My Piano (2007)
Nature-inspired, instrumental, ambient type stuff. Not bad, but I can't imagine when I would listen to it. I like to sing along or dance to music, and I can't do either to this. It may be good for background music while I'm trying to sleep or reading a book.

Guillemots - Red (2008)
Not bad, but still pretty boring. I can't get through the whole album at once. I'll keep it and add it to a huge playlist I keep on shuffle. One song every once in a while is fine.

High Places - 03/07 - 09/07 (2008)
Annoying. Reminds me of the majority of the songs on the Juno soundtrack. Sounds like a little kid singing, and they are songs about weird shit that don't make too much sense.

Kelley Polar - I Need You to Hold on While the Sky is Falling (2008)
Dancey/electronic. Too similar to awkward house music. I feel like I should be in a club with flashing lights and techno. Or that I should be high. Not a fan.

Margot and the Nuclear So-and-Sos - Dust of Retreat (2006)
I saw this album at Border's and decided to check it out cuz the name is...different. I like it. The lyrics are pretty cool. Music and vocals both remind me of Skittish, which is one of my faves. Really easygoing.

The Whitest Boy Alive - Dreams (2006)
I thought I wouldn't like it, but I do. Nice bass. Good music to sit around bobbing your head to.

Prototypes - Prototypes (2006)
French! Pretty sexy lolz. I heard Je Ne Te Connais Pas on TV...a car commercial. Really fun to dance around to. I like french lyrics cuz I sound neat when I sing along.

Guess what one of the albums was that I was going to give you? XD

I should just recommend the others and see if you already have them!

The Hoosiers was one and Adele was another. I think you would like them.
Zombie N-Word
Listening to Spank Rock's YoYoYoYoYo

I like the lyrics, but I'm not a fan of the beats.

Just listened to Sara Bareilles's Little Voice album. It seemed like a better version of Kate Nash's, except it was lacking a little edge.
Tiz
Mike Patton - A Perfect Place OST

Much better than at least Adult Themes for Voice, I haven't heard his other solo album but Adult turned me off of the idea of even touching his solo work, at least until someone pointed out that this album was a soundtrack for a short film. Pretty good stuff, I'll keep it around

Fleet Foxes - Sun Giant EP

I love this but I wish it was longer, a full album like this would probably be among my favorites of the year
Tiz
Marco Benevento - Invisible Baby
Fucking awesome, "Atari" is one of the most addictive tracks I've listened to all year

Hot Chip - Made in the Dark
This is something I've repeatedly started and quit listening to, but I finally finished it and I really like it, especially "Out at the Pictures" and "Hold On"

Presidents of the United States of America - These Are the Good Times People
Pretty mediocre actually, some catchy stuff and I think they've become more solid since their "Lump" days but nothing really stood out to me; still nice to come up on the playlist every once in a while but eh
Poopington
I've heard of like five of the bands in this topic.

Anyway, lately I've been listening to Herman's Hermits (a British Invasion band from back in the day) and The Yardbirds (the band that started Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck). I'd been aware of both for a long time, but never gave them the attention they deserved.
Tiz
R.E.M. - Accelerate
Not a bad album, some catchy stuff here and there. I actually haven't heard a full R.E.M. album before, I want to go back and grab some albums with songs I really like [like Green because I adore Orange Crush].
PA.
Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass

I like this guy
Dei
Bellowhead. It is like Tom Waits shagged Brit folk and it gave birth to an unholy hybrid of an 11 piece band who play everything from accordions to cellos right up to some bloke banging a frying pan at the back.

I think I like it.
Svyatogornyj
The new Roots album is good. The track with Saigon is sick.
