For a long time now, most news has been about selling advertisements, not telling people what's going on in the world. I don't read newspapers, and I don't watch TV. If I feel like seeing what's really major in the world, I'll look at the front page of wikipedia. If I ever actually want to read actual news, as opposed to fark or looking for interesting wiki articles to read, I'll read the Christian Science Minitor online. Contrary to the name, it's one of the best papers out there.

It was also one of the first newspapers to create an online version, because distribution costs were starting to outweigh subscription income.
