Zeebs, your ducks are looking to be hot in the Pac 10.
And fuck the pollsters...OSU isn't even ranked in the top 25. I'm sorry they are better than a lot of teams hovering around 20-25. They just picked up a new center that's going to be a top 10 pick in Kostakufis (sp?) and supposedly the next JJ REddick was picked up in John Deibler. Deibler broke all of Ohio's scoring records. I watched his game on tv once....he just launches threes like no other Reddick style. Had like 75 points. ANd he's tall and pretty athletic for a white boy.
Just watched Memphis' game highlights....and HOLY MOTHER FUCKING SHIT! That point guard they got, freshmen Derrick Rose I think his name is.....wow....this kid was fucking flying past defenders, blocking layups, and receiving alley-oops. And he was dishing them out...wow.

Ducks return everyone except Brooks and got a great recruiting class with shooters and bigs. Kamyron Brown takes over at sharing the point with Porter which will help a lot.
I don't anticipate the Elite 8 again but 2nd Round-Sweet Sixteen is definitely in reach. The Pac-10 is going to be brutal though.

Fucking OSU game vs UNC was terrible. North Carolina was dominating on the offensive boards, fucking god awful rebounding by Ohio State...
Kosto forcing too many fucking shots too, he's gotta realize that 7 foot dribblers aren't allowed at this level, stop standing by the fucking three point line. And fucking Ohio State point guards, Butler, LIghty etc....stop fucking giving it to Terwilliger, Hunter, and Kosto at the three point line, the fucking idiots keep shooting it.
And for the love of god, why doesn't Kosto camp out underneath the basket? Jesus that game made me so fucking mad.
But it also made me oh so happy. Jon Diebler!! WHAT WHAT! Next JJ Redick, you guys see that deep three he hit...he kept calling for the ball. I'm going to buy my 33 Ohio STate jersey after finals. I can't fucking wait.
Edit: ANd fucking Kosto tried to dribble and pass the ball like three times and passed it to NOrth Carolina players..you're not a fucking point guard stay away from the three point line....it was so ugly...god damnt Kosto you looked so good in the first two games and so awful in the last two. I'm confused, I hope he figures his game out and plays smarter....defnitely needs to play smarter.
Edit edit: ANd Diebler dunked that ball, that was fucking tight. And he drove and tried a two handed dunk, got his left hand fouled and pulled on (no foul called), and still put the ball in the hoop and fell hardcore. I love this kid already!

The next JJ has been found and his name is Taylor King. Put 27 points against Eastern Kentucky and then drained 6 three’s against Wisconsin. The dude is scary good. JJ was awesome, but he didn’t start putting up digits past 20 till late sophmore early Junior year (when he was the only jump shooter). King manages to put up these numbers when Duke has such a variety of options.
I haven’t been on this board for awhile, but I couldn’t resist a nice discussion about college basketball. As many of you know (Kyle for sure), I’m a huge Duke fan. I live in Chapel Hill so I’m pretty much catch the brunt end of all this Duke hating shit; however, even UNC fans can aknowledge just how lethal Duke is this year. Duke has downed Illinois, Marquette, and Wisconsin while currently sitting 7-0. I’m not saying Duke is a legit contender for the national championship, but for Duke to be so good this early in this year is making me quite optomistic.
On to the season so far. The Big Ten is a good conference, but the ACC/Big Ten Tourney is a complete joke. Duke is something like 8-0 in the tourney so every year I just look for Duke to win and move on. Hell, Duke sucked last year and still managed to beat MSU @ MSU. I’d really like to see the ACC play another conference. Maybe ACC vs. SEC? I’d love to see a KU/Duke matchup. Considering how everyone on ESPN slurps Kansas every year even though they crap out the first round in March, I’d love to see Duke own those retard Jay-hawks.
Of course I’m biased in saying this, but UNC is a complete joke being a number 2. They struggled against BYU…BY FUCKING U?! And they had a hard time with Davidson…um, okay they were without Lawson but seriously. Now I hope I didn’t just jinx Duke this Saturday.
Anywho, right now I’d say Memphis, UCLA, Clemson, Pitt and Duke are the best teams. I’m really looking forward to this season and I’m finally getting that old feeling I used to get about past Duke teams: they can run with anyone and blow out anyone. Duke seems to be finally back. It’s not just the “Redick Show” anymore as Coach K said two seasons ago.

i'm not totally convinced by Duke yet. However they have played strong so far. It's a long season.
And I was exaggerting on Diebler being the next Reddick, him and King got a long way to go. ANd I thought SHire was supposed to be DUke's next REddick?
I'm just pumped that OSU has an athletic, passionate white boy that loves to shoot the three ball (and he can dunk!)
And of course the ACC compared to the Big TEn isn't fair, the gap between the ACC and all other conferences in basketball is HUGE! Way bigger than any gap in college footbal.
The Big TEn only has 3 respected programs, MICH ST, IND, and Wisc. Ohio STate just started getting good recruits. Last year was an anomaly in OSU basketball (put me on that team and we'd be in the sweet 16). I'm interested to see how OSU does this year.

I'm actually surprised both Diebler AND King can dunk. What are the odds of that? And that's what alot of people thought about Scheyer coming in last year; however, everyone has come to find out he can not only shoot (albeit not as well as redick), but he also is a very well-rounded, smart player. Hell, his skinny ass got 9 rebounds against Wisconsin's 6-10 motherfuckers. I saw Diebler last night by the way. If he can shoot like that consistently, then I'll say there's a possibility he'll be the next JJ by his senior year (he also has to do shitty in the NCAA tourney...he wouldn't be a JJ clone if he wasn't!!!). Right now his 3 point percentage is 18% to King's 51%. Of course he was in a massive slump, but one good game doesn't mean he's out of the slump. I wish Vitale would realize that. These "jump shooting" white boys that come into college are always labeled as lethal yet they seem to have alot of god awful games. JJ was the only player to always put up 20 with the exception of a few regular season games and the tourney.
Also, props to OSU's recruiting division. If it makes you feel any better about last night's lose, the UNC fans I've talked to hate how you guys keep have gotten excellent recruits the past two years. UNC is used to getting the REAL McDonald's All-Americans while everyone else gets Burger King All-Americans.
So what games are you guys looking forward to. Obviously, the Duke/UNC game is like a god damn world stopper here in NC. Also, the Duke/Pitt game in NY will be interesting. UCLA plays Texas this Sunday. I can't wait for the Memphis/Georgetown game. That one should be good too.

Even as a Duke student and huge bball fan, I'm not so sold on King yet. He's pretty arrogant and when his shot isn't falling he shoots really terribly but keeps chucking anyway. That could potentially be very bad, he likes to take shots from anywhere on the court really at any time. But I like his enthusiasm and I can't argue with his shot selection when he's draining everything he takes.
This is a pretty scary Duke team this year and I can't wait for the UNC (who is EXTREMELY overrated this year, even though they're really solid) match-up here at Cameron. I feel quite confident saying that we can beat any team in the country if we're shooting well, but at the same time if we're not shooting well we can lose to just about anybody. Even with Lance getting more comfortable and Singler's skill, we still aren't a very good team inside. If we aren't hitting threes we basically have to rely on Singler's post game and Nelson and Henderson slashing inside a lot.
merriweatherpostpavillion
Nov 30 2007, 05:09 AM
Yeah, I know what you mean about our inside game. Zoubek is like a weaker and lankier version of Shavlik Randolph...if that's even fucking possible. He's 7-2 I believe yet still managed to miss a dunk a few games ago...wtf. One thing to note though, Wisconsin outmatched Duke heavily in terms of height yet Duke still managed to get more rebounds. I don't know how it happened, but it did.
And I'm glad King is cocky. I think a lot of JJ's problem was confidence. He couldn't hit threes when the game was on the line until his junior-senior year (he did have one brief glimmer of greatness his freshman year against State in the ACC tourney).

Yeah fuck florida. They won two years in a row and never even had to throw up a shot to Christian Laettner.

They also didn't play complete powerhouses like UNLV or the Fab Four at the time. Other than maybe playing Ohio State, even though 92 UNLV made Ohio State look like shit, last year they never played any ridiculously dominant teams. Still have to give them credit. That's a hard thing to do regardless. I'm just glad I don't have to see Noah anymore. What a chode.

Looks like Illinois will struggle this year to get a quality win, which is going to kill us once tournament time comes around. We barely got in last year, I don't see it happening again if we don't a few quality wins against teams on the road.
The only relief this year is that the Big Ten's absolutley horrible. Minnesota, Penn State, Northwestern, Iowa, Michigan, and Ohio State should all end up being W's this year. Don't know how we'll handle the rest of the conference.

Nothing like scoring 111 points against a warmup team before playing the big guns...in Duke's case--Pitt. I can't wait for this game. Duke will have problems inside especially now that Lance Thomas hurt his ankle. It's possible he might play Thursday, but I doubt it. As long as Duke racks up the points like they've been doing, they shouldn't have too much of a problem.
I laughed when Kentucky lost to UAB the other day; however, it was better when it happened that year in the NCAA tourney.

Are you not at all nervous about the Pitt game, especially with Lance out? I doubt he plays, he was hobbling around a lot during finals week, didn't look comfortable even walking on it let alone playing basketball.

Yeah, I didn't realize Duke would resort to their old style of offense for most of the game. If Duke is not running the ball this year, they're toast. That's the key to beat Duke this year. Not having a big man inside...it's taking Duke out of their offense and slowing them down into a half-court offense which is what either Pitt managed to do or what Duke did to itself. When they were running the ball, they'd gain a lead; however, they'd resort to stalling again. It's like Duke was playing nervously the entire game. Then again, we have alot of freshmen and sophomores.
On the bright side, this was the perfect test for a NCAA Tournament game. Great competition, atmosphere, neutral court, ect. We'll see how the game goes if Duke plays Pitt again in the tourney.

Weber's changed his recruiting technique and has actually started getting some good recruits, so I'm not too worried about the future. Jamar Smith comes back next year and Alex Legion can provide some shooting, something we desperately need.
Looks like we'll have to rough it out this year, though. Winning the B10 tournament is about the only chance we have of getting in the tourny.
