EDIT: V0 is about 256, V2 is an average of 192 or so.

and VBR is variable bit rate. it varies depending on the quality necessary throughout the track. so the parts that need it get the maximum bitrate, but silence gets encoded at the lowest possible bitrate. much more efficient.

plus, VBR encodes generally mean the CD was ripped using EAC, so it's much more likely to be a good rip.
