I thought about posting this in the sports board because this kid was a star defensive back (who shutdown Calvin Johnson in high school every time they played).

Wilson v. State was a Georgia court case brought about to appeal the aggravated child molestation conviction of Genarlow Wilson.

Wilson had been convicted of aggravated child molestation because, at the age of seventeen, he had engaged in oral sex with a consenting fifteen-year-old at a New Year's Eve party. Wilson was African American as was the fifteen-year-old as reported by Georgia news outlets, The Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press[1][2][3][4] although ABC News reported that she was white.[5]

At the time of his conviction, provisions for similarity in age that allowed underage consent to be taken into account were only applicable to vaginal sex. Because the case involved oral sex the consent of the girl was not at that time legally relevant.

Basically this kid was 17 and he was at a hotel room with a 15 year old and a 17 year old, they were all drunk etc...

He had sex with the 17 year old and got a blowjob from the 15 year old. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail because of the blowjob. Apparently it was a felony in Georgia.

People, including a Georgia Senator still think he should be in jail.

I think it's bullshit. They ruined the kids life. He was offered to be released and no jail time if he would just be registered as a sex offender. He refused and fought it and now he's free. I say good for him for not giving in.

I'm glad the guys finally gotten his justice. Cases like this should call for a revision on the age of consent laws in this country, they should be consistent everywhere.

As for the whole case in general, it was a victimless crime, and I bet the kid didn't even know it was illegal. Come on, now, 17 and 15? That's totally common in high school.

Isn't the age of consent sixteen in Georgia? I don't know, it is in a lot of states.

But I don't know exactly how it works, is somebody over the age of consent considered a legal adult, then, and if they have sex with somebody under the aoc they're charged with statutory rape?

If so I don't see why it's any different than an eighteen year old boning a sixteen year old here in California. I still think the arbitrary lines are retarded, they're just a little different.

In most states, age of consent laws include some sort of provisions such that if you're less than two years older than the other person, even if they're under the age of consent, it's still legal. But from the sounds of the original post, this court case took place prior to laws like that being in place.
