Full Version: Am I doing something wrong?

Ok so my laptop just died on me, it restarts itself and I get a blue screen of death before even getting to the Windows loading screen. It flashes too quickly to read much but I think it's a hard drive issue, at least it said something like "check the disk to make sure there is enough space."

Anyways, if it is the hard drive, this is the fourth one to die on me in about three years. Two WDs, one Seagate, and whatever this one is in my laptop.

So I have to ask, am I doing something wrong? It sounds stupid but either it is just extremely rotten luck or I am doing something horrible to these HDDs. I don't really play PC games except Command and Conquer the first decade, the only videos I watch are on gametrailers or youtube, the rest go to my thumb drive to watch on my tv. Other than browsing the internet I don't really do much at all.

Also what's the deal with Macs I kind of want one now. The 17 inch Macbook Pro looks nice but pricey, Macrumors says it is a neutral time to buy one so I think I'll hold off until I have the cash and the newer models come out. I can load Vista onto that if I ever want to right?

Thanks and God Bless.

It sounds like you just have shit luck with hard drives. Do you give the pc time to cool off? Do you have it in an area that lets it vent? Maybe that could attribute to it.

I don't know much about macs but I don't think you can load vista with it unless its boot camp. Which, if I'm not mistaken halves your hard drive so you have a Mac OS and Windows. ButI'd say yeah wait a bit until the next Mac OS comes out.

Leopard, new Mac OS, is out already as of yesterday. And Leopard >>> Vista.

Who makes you laptop? Sounds like your laptop's design fails in the cooling department, ie: you laptop does not dissipate heat fast enough, causing the hard drive to be real hot and then fail.

Yea Leopard looks cool.

But the thing is this isn't the first hard drive to fail on me, the others were in desktops.

I like laptops just because I can take them with me if I need to.

Yeah - Macs are great. With Leopard that just came out, you can load Vista (probably) onto it via Bootcamp, which is a standard addition to the Leopard OSX. XP definitely, if you need a windows OS. I had an old HD die in my iBook G4 that was what... 4 years old? Needed a new one anyway. But the new Macbook Pros are absolutely sexy. If you don't mind paying the price, it's a great machine to have.

No idea on your hard drives. I personally am yet to have one truly fail on me and I've used a fair few.

Unless you need the OS, don't buy a mac. The hardware is vastly overpriced and you have little control over what's in it. If you want Vista on it, then go with a PC where you can get way more bang for your buck.

Oh, my bad. i thought they were all in laptops. But yeah most likely just shitty luck/ bad quality drives. Did you RMA any of them?
