Apparently, the same guy is gonna make one/already made one called BOiNK. But it isn't going to be invite-only, so all sorts of people will be signed up.

now it's approaching 1500 users and 800+ torrents

That's actually The Pirate Bay that will be running it, not really the same guy. It also won't have any of the same rules that oink had about transcodes, seeding, or minimum bitrate and it will be public. While it's good in theory and I strongly support the "hydra" idea (chop one head off and a bunch will sprout up to replace the one), I probably will barely use it.

Not necessarily. The minimum upload quality 192kbs, and there was an ocean of re-uploaded scene rips you can just as easily find in joe shmoe's DC++ hub. Many people also use torrent sites like oink as their primary source of digital music, regardless of their original purpose. I just didn't fit into any of that so I don't miss the site much.
