Shocka
Usually votes Republican for President (for awhile now), yet for Governor they usually vote Democrat?

Anyone from the South, that can clear this up for me?
The President
Local politics are very different from national ones. Most southern Democrats are just as conservative as the Republican ones.

You know how some kids don't mind being told around by their parents but can't stand the decentralized authority figure of the police?

Yeah, it's like that.

The Democrats they elect are socially moderate/conservative, but are Democrats because they are financially liberal.
Asuka
My grandparents are all conservative as hell, but are democrats and vote Liberal.

That. Plus before it was made illegal the states were gerrymandered so as to always come out Republican. It's the same in Indiana...we usually have a Democratic governor, democratic congressmen, etc. but we're one of the reddest states in the Presidential elections. (aside from now, but nobody likes Mitch Daniels and he's on his way out.)

It might be a little surprising to some people but a lot of the religious and social conservatives, which are mainly located in the deep south, are not fiscally conservative at all.
