So, Nas finally realized the only way to assert himself back into the public's eye was to stir up some controversy. According to Billboard, he announced that his new album would be called "Nigga". After his label denied such a claim, he agreed, saying it would in fact be called "Nigger".

Before settling on the name, he wanted to make a radio-friendly album, but changed his mind with the title and said he wanted to make something real.

Basically, he said his personal goal is to relieve the stigma of the word by making it more common in society. He wants it to be like cracker, which doesn't carry near the weight as nigger does, even though they're the exact same thing when you get down to it. I think it'll just have a negative effect similar to Chappelle's Show, because you can't get rid of a word's power unless you get rid of the reaction to it.
Cocks.
That's one of the most outstanding things I have ever heard. You just made my day. Thanks!

Damn, I actually want to buy an album that's titled Nigger. Go Nas.

Like Chappelle's Show, the negative effects of this will be all in our heads. He risks not being played on the radio, or sold in major retailers to do something that's REAL ART.
Paul MC Hurt Meh
I'll get it on vinyl!

Basically, he said his personal goal is to not even focus on the music and make money on the controversy alone.

He's just doing the same shit now he did last year with "Hip-Hop Is Dead" - Using a bold title to rake in the sales and laughing all the way to the bank, regardless of the finished projects quality. I think it's a little disgusting that he would disguise this little scheme as a way of "making a statement." What he's doing is basically the same shit-stirring that people always get at Jesse Jackson and his ilk for - jumping on a hot button issue and getting it blown out of proportions.

I can't even remember the number of songs that came out after Hip-Hop Is Dead that were saying 'Nas is wrong, hip-hop ain't dead' as if his declaration really meant anything other than him finding a clever way to thrust himself back into the rap scene.

All the NAACP protests and Bill O'Reilly interviews are going to get this guy so much exposure it's sickening.

I also find it hilarious that a guy that was criticized for being "too smart" for his audience is proving that critisism true by bamboozling the shit out of everyone. Hell, if he changed the name a week before it's realease he'd still have bamboozled everyone.

EDIT: Who the hell am I kidding? No one's really going to give a damn about this album as long as it looks like T.I. might actually go to jail, that dude is gonna be on everybodies lips.

The only good tracks on HHID were Black Republican and Hip-Hop Is Dead. If he had really been trying to make a statement about the degeneration of hip-hop he should've taken the time to piece together a decent album.

Three songs, but yeah, I pretty much agree with that sentiment.

And that's where you're wrong.

Sounds like an interesting experiment. More power to Nas.

Bare bones, they're both slurs based solely on race. Yes, I realize "nigger" has a much deeper history, and that's a big reason this is a retarded idea.
The Clown
I don't care what he calls it. Nas is tight.
