What's a good program to totally delete a file from your system, similar to this?
Svyatogornyj
TuneUp 2006

It's got a secure delete thing that shreds the data so it can't be recovered. It uses some Department Of Defense method or some shit.
Probably one of the best applications for any computer, really. It has tons of other nifty features.

Thanks a lot. I was using this before, but it stopped working for me for no reason.

If you have trouble deleting something, because of access rights violations:

Also if you want to delete something so it doesn't go directly to the recycle bin, you can hold down the shift button while pressing the delete button to bypass the recycle bin and get rid of it once and for all.

As for sensitive info that you want obliterated, you'll want a shredder program... like the one in TuneUp.

It was sensitive info. Specifically, illegal info from /b/. My harddrive needed to be cleansed.

Most of those programs work on the principle of writing on the same spot over and over again, right?

Yeah you delete the original file by replacing it with new "garbage" data and then repeating the process several times so the "garbage data" cannot be reversed into the original. Wikipedia says the government standard for hardcore deletion is to do it 3 times (3 wipes).
