I can't remember if I've mailed in my voter registration thing yet, but I clearly remember mailing that out. I guess I had a notion in my head that maybe you get two birds with one stone. M i rong?
AlienFromBeyond

As I recall, the Selective Service card and Voter Registration are two different things.
ErrorDante
Very much two different things.

I was under the same assumption too. I thought I remembered seeing something about voting on the Selective Service thing. I don't think I ever actually registered to vote yet and still got my card in the mail.

Yeah, see, I'm aware they're two different things, but I also seem to remember them mention voting registration on the selective service thing. Honestly I thought that was what inspired me to actually just fill it out and get it done. Hmm. I wonder if I could call the place and give 'em my soc' and see if I'm registered...

I never had to deal with any Selective service or Voters card.

Some states automatically register you with Selective Service when you get a driver's license, so if you have one that might already have been taken care of. If not, don't sweat it, the last people prosecuted for not signing up were a group of social activists in 1986.

I think the deal is that you can't register to vote in federal elections if you don't register for Selective Service. I think that's what it said on the card I got, anyway. It's been a little while.

EDIT: SEP is right. I fucked up.
Scorched Earth Policy
no, registering for selective services doesn't mean you are registered to vote BUT registering to vote automatically registers you for the selective services if hadn't done so already
Svyatogornyj
Maybe you were thinking of a state ID/license application where you can register to vote as well.
LifeofX
No but if you get your drivers license you can do both.

hehe you never have to worry about the draft.

hahah. Have you seen that Weeds episode (umm, spoilers? it's the new season >_>) where uncle andy tries to get out of the draft because of losing two toes? His last ditch effort to all the recruiter's rebuttals: "...I'm gay!" and the guy just nods diagonally and smiles and is like, "We got a unit for that." (It's not funny in text or out of context. sad.gif )
LifeofX
I don't get Showtime. I miss seeing Weeds
Kefka
Me either, I watched the first two seasons on DVD and downloaded the season 3 episodes. biggrin.gif I'd avoid our draft by default being the only male heir of my family technically... if that didn't work it's not like I wouldn't already be acting as gay as fuck. XD.gif
