I already know right off the bat about getting a good night's sleep. Anything else to just increase the general amount of energy I can have during a day?

1. Eat a heatlhy breakfast. It gives you a ton of energy to burn. Try to eat a fruit with it, as well as something with a lot of carbs. Drink either water or some kind of juice. Keep it as healthy as possible...it gives you more energy than caffeinated drinks and the like. Basically, eat a good breakfast, don't just pour yourself a bowl of ceral and milk and drink some coffee and call it breakfast.
2. Start taking multivitamins. It won't do shit in the short term, but it'll pay dividends in the long term. Plus, as an added benefit, I dropped about 10 pounds when I started taking them. I dunno if that would work for you, but it was nice.
3. Most importantly, like you already said, get a good night's sleep. Avoid taking naps during the day, too, because it'll make you less tired when you go to bed and thus less likely to sleep through the night.

Just basic exercise and a good diet.
Your body goes to carbs for energy first, then protein, then fat. Pretty sure that's the right order. You have to eat the complex carbohydrates though, like apples, nuts and whole wheat bread, not the mono/disaccharides, stay away from those.
That and some exercise to get your blood flowing. Just 30 squats/pushups when you wake up can make a difference.
