Streetlight's thing is always to call the crowd the best no matter where they are (Youtube it) and then act like every song is the last one in their set.

Also, Kalnoky would make up dates for the new album to come out when he teased songs from it, usually saying "...tomorrow!"

I liked how when they would sing Point/Counterpoint live, it would go "I've got a gun in my hand and the gun won't COCK!" and then they would go back to normal volume for the rest of the song.

Which Bandits show? I am seeing Rx Bandits in Baltimore on the 7th, then again on the 8th in Jersey, and then the Streetlight show on the 9th. A week later, I am seeing Streetlight again when they come to Towson.

Rx Bandits in philly on the 9th to open the weekend, can't remember the venue. Then 2 days later on the 11th Streetlight to close the weekend, I should spend all of saturday listening to nothing but Ska....

This album is so not homo.

Amazing, yet truly different from EGN.

QUOTE(Poopington @ Oct 25 2007, 08:52 PM) *

Has there ever been a concert where the band didn't say something like "Glad to be here in <insert name of town>, the ROCKIN'EST TOWN IN THE WORLD!!!!!"

No, there hasn't. But like, I've been to enough concerts to recognize the usual "ah it's nice to be here" from the people who really like Seattle.

I saw Streetlight live once 2 years ago. Incredible show, except this one chick kept elbowing me for no reason. They played every song I wanted them too, and the new ones that were "new" at the time. It might have been around the first time they started playing them, since I remember them saying that...hmmm

They usually started every show with "Watch It Crash" and also teased "Would You Be Impressed."

My favorite song right now is "Somewhere in the Between", even though I'm loving all the songs.

I just hope on the CD release, the bass/drums are more prominent.

i have never heard ska before, but i like it.

In my experience the only good ska bands out there are Streetlight and BOTAR.

When I get new people to listen to them I don't say what genre they are, because if I do nobody'll try it.

I think Somewhere in Between is the best as well. It's the most sing-a-longish on the album. I also really like ...Mephisto's Cafe and The Reciving End of it All.

Honestly, I don't feel like Streetlight or BOTAR are ska. If you listen to the songs, they aren't ska-ish at all. Besides Point/Counterpoint, I don't really think their songs are ska. Just because there are horns doesn't mean it's ska.
Zebrahead

Ska has more roots in reggae, which isn't Streetlight's influence at all. Streetlight has their influences in salsa, mariachi and shuffle/jazz music as well as straight speed punk.

"Somewhere In the Between" is a cool song. Very catchy and an anthem song that they didn't have already. I like "Watch It Crash," "We Will Fall Together" and "One Foot on the Gas, One Foot in the Grave" the most.
INTERNET HATE MACHINE
I'm gonna go ahead and agree that "Somewhere in the Between" is the best song on the album. The new anthem, so to speak. I'm a tiny bit disappointed there wasn't any sort of Keasby Nights/Point-Counterpoint type song but I'll live.

emot-eng101.gif Reggae has more roots in ska.

I'd say the style on this album is definately more big band/swing as far as the horn section goes. The drumming isn't as tight, I agree.

Favorite tracks:
Mefisto's
One foot on the gas
Forty Days

I think Blond lead the Blind is a good upbeat track.

EDIT: SM and moreso BOTAR aren't really ska bands, defintealy an influence, but they're a genre of their own imo.

if anyone would upload or point me to links of previous streetlight manifesto songs, that'd be great

Planet Smashers and Forces of Evil are some of the only truly good ska bands, if we're not technically really calling streetlight ska. Which I can see.

I've always thought SM was alot different then any other ska band. I rarely like other ska but SM and BOTAR are two of my favorite bands

What about older Rx Bandits? Their new stuff is definitely experimental and not ska, but what about Halfway Between Here and There and Those Damn Bandits?

That sums me up pretty well. Actually, Operation Ivy is okay but I get annoyed with that retarded sounding guy about half way through Energy.
Kefka
Did anyone else notice him saying "Mariconnnn, my friend" in... I'll go listen through and figure out what song. Maybe forty days? Is anyone actually named that? Last I heard maricon was just like spanish slang for faggot. laugh.gif

EDIT: It's the opening line to The Receiving End of It All. And then again as another opening line. laugh.gif WTF? The only non-derogatory meaning I can find is "3) Affectionate term of address used by certain gay men to address other gay men, often in jest." Does that mean I can have Kalnoky's babies?

Pretty sure Kalnoky isn't gay; I read an interview a while ago where he was talking about his girlfriend. But I can definitely see him writing a song where the speaker is gay.
Kefka
LOL lyrics site say "Marigold" but it's really obviously maricon not Marigold.

So Marigold, my love, you've had too much to drink
And I need not remind you, our discount tickets for this sinking ship
Take-backs and sweet regrets, that's all that we have left
No one is looking out for anyone but number one
One to one, two to dance, we all get our sweet romance
Though sour grapes will turn to wine its all just vinegar with time
And oh, I want to know, we all want to know
How can anybody treat somebody so?
She said it hurts too much
I said it will never hurt enough
No one will ever see these cuts
No one will ever call this bluff

blah blah it talks about a chick saying it hurts too much and I don't know... it just doesn't really sound like from the perspective of a gay guy exactly, though that is the best/most logical explanation... Maybe he's a homophobe and didn't want to be really obvious with it. XD.gif tongue.gif

Kefka
I could maybe hear the G in marigold, but it definitely sounds like it ends in an N to me. laugh.gif But Marigold? That's even gayer than naming someone Maricon.
Poopington
Well, that guy's voice is a little strange, but if you've heard much by him it sounds like he's definitely saying Marigold.

LOL you're right. I totally forgot about that.

I listened to it again trying as hard as I could to hear Marigold, and I do kinda hear it. I guess maybe that is it. I kinda hope it is, because if he's just saying faggot in spanish... unsure.gif That's not nice.

Kalnoky's voice is hot. >_> Not weird. It's good.

I live next to Camus St.

His voice is weird, but in a good way. It's not at all what you'd call a good singing voice but it's very easy to sing along with.
Zoho Gorganzola
So I've been giving the album another listen here and there. And I have to say I like it much better than I did on my first listen, definitely not a sophmore slump (I don't really count the Keasby Nights remake as an album release)
Zebrahead

Yeah, after listening to it multiple times it's definitely my #1 album of 2007, by far. It's fantastic, I love the improvement of the horn section and the maturation of the sound, lyrics and style.
