Alright, I got a dental procedure tomorrow. I'm having my wisdom teeth taken out. My dentist says I can bring an iPod while she's operating. What are some good relaxing types of music that will keep my mind far away from the chair.
I'll probably download some stuff tonight or tomorrow morning.

Explosions in the Sky
Sleep - Dopesmoker
Pelican
pretty much anything instrumental.

Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla
Kaddisfly - Set Sail The Prairie
Kaddisfly - Horses Galloping On Sailboats
Codeseven - Camel City
Mew - The Zookeeper's Boy
Anything off of Dredg's El Cielo album, especially Brushstroke: A Walk In The Park.
Some of my favorites from my sleep playlist.
IMO if you want to get your mind taken off the teeth you'd want to stay as far away from relaxing music as possible. Ambient and instrumental is only good to listen to when you're doing something else, so you can have most of your attention focused on whatever you're doing with the music as a backdrop. Your best bet is something with lyrics so you can focus on the actual song.
That's just what I would do, though. Having had my wisdom teeth taken out I know it'd take a lot more than some calm music to take my mind off that screeching of bone against bone. Especially when the anesthesia begins to wear off because the dentist cant get the tooth out cause it never separated from the jawbone and she has to saw through the goddamn thing which took about a half hour. Have fun man.

Actually, make sure you have music that will go over the sound of the drilling. A Sonic Youth album should be good.

OK I just came back. First off, I didn't have general anesthesia. I had nitrous oxide so I was still conscious. The only difference is that I was a little light headed and I got a tiny buzz. That's probably the best way to go. It would suck to be asleep and have the anesthesia wear off, but not be able to tell them that.
Anyway, the anesthesia did wear off eventually but it wasn't a problem as she put some more back on when she noticed I started reacting to the drilling.
After seeing Nicolaay's first post I decided to just play whatever is on my iPod. I put everything on shuffle. You're right, having 'relaxing' songs that you aren't used to didn't help. Personally I played a lot of Muse's songs like Stockholm Syndrome. It really goes well with the drilling and I'm a big fan of theirs. Playing intense music to go over the sound and playing music that you like really is the best way to go. A big thanks for the advice.

I don't think they knock you out for wisdom teeth. That requires an actual anesthesiologist (and I don't think any of them work in dentist's offices, just in the major hospitals, but I might be wrong), and it costs a shitload compared to the regular 'numbing' anesthesia that they usually give you, which I don't think costs anything.

Jesus, they gave me NO2 and like, general anesthetic, it was great. I just went in, put on some mask that made me feel goofy while they put a needle in my arm, and then later on they were like "alright, this nurse is going to help you to the waiting room where your mom is, and I was like "no I'm alright, I've been wayyyyyy drunker than this", which my mom didn't think was all that funny.

I said something to that effect to the nurse after I got NO2'd for my wisdom teeth.
