Yeah, I've been considering the hell out of it. Tell me how well it works, or if anybody else has it please do.

My sister and I tried the Blockbuster online thing, but it sucked. They sent the wrong movies with the same title or even without a couple of times, some of them took forever, etc.

I absolutely adore Netflix. It's not as good while in Montana because the closest shipping facility is in Denver, but the DVD selection and the mostly consistent shipping speed has kept me really happy. Also the Watch Now feature is great, and they finally added drag-and-drop queue, which took long enough. Totally satisfied with Netflix, but if you live near a Blockbuster that might be a better deal.

EDIT: I have been sent the wrong movie twice in two years, but it didn't bug me too much. One time they sent me an actual Prairie Home Companion show as opposed to Altman's Prairie Home Companion, and another time they sent me a 1990s Wedding Party instead of Brian De Palma's 1960s Wedding Party.

EDIT AGAIN: How many people on the boards actually have Netflix? We could pin a Netflix topic and have a list of users if it was a decent amount but I only know of two other people off the top of my head [Lance and SFB].

If you have blockbuster near you, it is better. Way better. Exchanges in store for the movies and you still get the next ones sent in to you. Same movie selection and from what customers tell me, it's faster through the mail.

Sorry but I have been brainwashed.

Well, the reason I was kinda disenchanted about the return them in store thing was because my sister worked there at the time that we were doing it, and we got buttloads of free rentals from Blockbuster anyway. So their movie pool didn't have too much to offer that I hadn't already seen or couldn't anyway, and then their online thing just didn't seem to work worth ass. This was more or less in the program's infancy, though, I guess it could be better by now.

Yeah Netflix is fantastic. I love their Watch Now feature and the selection is truly something else.

They have sent me the wrong movie once (Dune) but it wasn't a big deal.

EDIT: Once you start rating movies their recommendations actually become useful - at least they have with me. Their prices for used DVDs are great too.

If you think Blockbuster has the same selection as Netflix you're wrong. I would love the Watch Now thing if it worked on my computer. sad.gif

You sign up online with a credit card. First time customers get a 2 week trial. That's what I'm doing right now.

For my trial I am doing 4 DVDs at a time, though you can do up to 5 DVDs at a time. Make sure you select the highest when you do the trial. It lasts for 2 weeks which gives you time to cancel the subscription or adjust your plan.

I like Netflix because I recently started watching wrestling and it has almost every WWE dvd you can think of. I'm also a movie connoisseur and again it has everything, i mean EVERYTHING. It even has stuff from the 20's like City Lights and old Charlie Chaplin movies. I was even more surprised that they have foreign movies. Not just foreign movies, like arthouse movies but stuff you'd find only in that particular country. In short, they have a lot of stuff so it should keep you busy.

I just got my DVDs. One is Uncle Tom's Cabin for a report I'm doing. It's dated 1927 so you can see how far flung their selection is. Another one is a british tv series which I extremely doubt Blockbuster has.

Their delivery is pretty fast. I started the trial Monday night so understandably, they didn't process it until Tuesday. They shipped it on Wed and I just got my DVD today Thursday. So another tip is to start the trial around midnight to maximize it. You can setup a queue so when you return a DVD and they recieve it, you get one back as soon as possible. I haven't done that yet but I assume it takes about 2 business days to get another one back (they get it first, then they ship another one).

The watch now feature is really lackluster but I forgive them because they are just starting it out. There's really nothing I want to see out of it so far but in a couple months or so it'll be packed.

Netflix is great for stuff you know you won't find anywhere else. If you want the mainstream stuff, then Blockbuster or a rental store is probably better. I'm keeping it in college because the rental store near me is pretty small.
Poopington
I find it strange that you mentioned City Lights when I just watched it yesterday for the first time (rad movie, btw)>_>

Well, thanks, mang; I'm almost definitely going to try it soon. Do they have much in the way of TV on DVD?
Tiz
They have just about every TV show on DVD you can think of. It's half the reason I got Netflix in the first place but I haven't rented a single show in two years, so go go planning
The President
I suggest getting alot of foreign films to sound intellectual.
Trogdor the Burninator
but they don't have the first season of Twin Peaks lgjsfbjsd;ew
The President
They only carry GOOD shows.
lolnard copenhagen
The first season of Twin Peaks is pretty hard to find unless you get it on something like eBay since it's out of print. sad.gif
Gir
I have NetFlix, my mom loves it.
Jeff
You should proceed to purchase a dvd burner if you don't have one.
Poopington
Oh, durrr. I didn't even think of that.

>_>

All right, I'll try to get one of those and a membership in the next month or two.
Tiz
Yeah, I basically burn everything I rent, unless I manage to watch it off the computer rip before burning and decide I don't want it. lol
Craig
I also have netflix, been using it for around 10 months and i'd have to say its purely amazing. the only thing that does piss me off is sometimes movies just don't become available for a really long time.
YoungWhipperSnapper
Well I've had it for a week already. The return service and shipping is great. I like how they notify you when they received or shipped a DVD by email.

The only thing I would like to see are more movies on the watch instantly feature and weekend shipping. I wouldn't mind paying extra to get movies 7 days a week.
Craig
yeah i would like to pay for weekend shipping but im actually pretty content myself with how they roll. the only thing i hate is the wait time for some movies after you have been a member for a while.

Also maybe we should all add our user links here and add each other for the friends section. that way we can see what we all are watching and shit.

I just got Netflix, now that I'm back at college and my roommate has BluRay, so now I need to find good shit to rent.

EDIT: Here's my link, if anyone wants to add me or whatever: http://www.netflix.com/BeMyFriend/P9vIM3DFb1v5UQbt9HPG

Also, if you rent a season of a show, do the discs come seperately, or do you get the season at one time? I notice it has the discs listed separately.

yeah the discs do come separate. which blows becomes some shows throw those random eps on only like one disc then you have to rent two to get regular satisfaction out of it .
