I remember reading one of them a long time ago and I enjoyed it quite thouroughly but I didn't get to read any of the other ones. Are the rest of the books in the series good? If so which do you recommend?

Yeah, the rest of his books are awesome. I'm personally a fan of Death, so I've read a lot of books involving him. I'd say check out Reaperman, Mort, Thief of Time, The Fifth Elephant if you like Vimes. The first book he wrote isn't very good (Color of Magic I believe) though.

I have read them most of the bar one or two since I have been pretty much keeping up with them for years now. Each book can stand alone but characters do come back and develop. So I can't suggest much other than starting at the beginning really.

Though they can be split into... 4 broad groupings, the Death books, the Wizard books, the Witches books and the Watchmen ones. I personally never got into the Wizard ones as much and my favourites are the Witches ones. Though they do interwine pretty freely. I used one in a dissertation at school and got a pretty good mark from it. They are marvellously layered and filled with clever social commentary while being as funny as hell.

Vimes runs the Watchmen.

I'm a Watchman guy myself - Sam Vimes is a badass, no mistake about it.

I wasn't a big fan of his until I read The Fifth Elephant. Total badass.

I must say my order of favorite groupings (as Dei put it so well) would be Death, Wizards, Watchmen, and Witches.

I don't care for the Witches ones. The rest are all great though.

Fuck yeah. Night Watch is my favorite.
