Us mods spend all our free time sitting in the Mod Lounge discussing who is going to be the next target. We do this to stir drama and have fun at everyone else's expense. Dante was a martyr, and his ban was impeccably planned out as part of our ongoing mission to keep people hating us so we can make fun of them for being so serious about not taking things so serious.

You mods are all the same. With Dei as the lone exception, every time a topic criticizing a mod action comes up, there's always one mod that trolls, one mod that gets in a flame war with a user, and the rest of the mods act like there's no problem at all and we, the lowly poster, are just too beneath them to understand that. Then someone will start complaining about all the work mods do that we dont see, and how backed up their inboxes are, and what a hellhole this place would be without any mods. They act like they're soldiers in Vietnam, and we're just hippies...we don't get it, we've never been in the shit. We've never seen what they're doing over there, and if it weren't for you mods, we'd all be speaking Vietnamese right now!

I'ml aying down a challenge to all mods: prove it. For one week, don't moderate anything outside of attempts to hack or invade the forum. Don't announce when that week will be...if you tell people they can do anything with no consequences, but in a week everything's back to normal, obviously the place will flip shit and people will start posting things that they wouldn't normally. Just go to the mod lounge, pick a week you won't mod anything, don't tell anyone, and let it happen. I wanna see this hypothetical hellhole. My bet is during that week, the only changes we'd see are an increase in random images and song lyrics and some slightly harsher flames.

Also, I think Dante deserved to be banned. He was told explicitly in that topic don't do it or you're banned. Then he did it. I don't really think there was any choice but to ban him. And I don't think there was any intent to make it a permanent ban, or even a long one, but then all these douche bags started parading for Dante back. I wouldn't have given in, either. I think it's more the people who were arguing about it and trying to get him back by being dicks that made sure he's still gone than the mods.


I'm more or less fine with how the site is right now. The issues I do have are small ones. Repeatedly ignored though they are, none of them matter overmuch. Except that one of them is that the users should have a little more input.

Mods are not perfect/robots/always sober. It isn't always going to go the way everyone wants it. Can't please all of the people all of the time yadda yadda. But I don't think it is a massive problem. And I don't think staff actually posting like your standard user is a massive problem either. Push everyone into being either one or the other box and I think no one would be happy. And you lose even more posty people.

I meant more of just the social boards...the Lounge, links board, music board, movies board, sports board, that kind of thing. Obviously H&A would be an exception. I honestly don't think the Lounge should be modded at all. That's the way that it was when the boards first started, and we didn't have any problems. Now we actually have a SMALLER user base. There's no reason to mod it.



But if we're going to have mods, they should at least follow the rules. What kidn of example does it set when there's a mod engaged in a flame war with a user, slinging personal shots at him about his former drug addiction? I don't want my cops to be shoplifters, I don't want to see my mods in flame wars either. Then again, I don't relaly thin they're needed in the first place.

I don't think anyone has a problem with the mods posting in, you know, the fashion of an ordinary poster. Nobody expects messages from Morm to begin with "Dear 404Daily Poster" and end with "Respectfully, Your Forum Administrator: A. Black Man" (Sorry, I dunno your real name).

But the perception seems to be that the mods post in the same fashion as everyone else, but the threshold for deleting/editing a post by a moderator is higher than for a message by a regular poster. If mods are going to flame people and be dicks to people, that's fine, but if they're going to do that, then they shouldn't be deleting posts for flaming and being dicks.

I don't really have a problem with anything that happened lately except that while everyone was busy flipping out over everything there was really nothing to do on here, but that seems to be what the people who don't like the mods are saying.

Where in all that does it not make perfect sense why he was banned? The admin made a rule because there were people here who wanted to read the book without reading spoilers first, he told everyone, he said exactly what the conseqences to breaking the rule would be, and then Dante deliberately broke it.

This is pretty much the truth. Even though I love most of the mods (personally) I don't think there's much need for them. This place is never gonna get bigger, only smaller.

You know what? I am fed up now. Every reasonable discussion has turned into a stupid argument. Every mod decision is ignored. Yet this topic is filled with wails about mod abuse. As far as I am concerned right now the only abuse going on is the stuff directed at the damn mods.

If a mod edits it is for a reason. Turn it back and you have no proof and so there is no point whingeing about it. If you have a problem you need to show the actual problem. I see no problem and I refuse to deal in 'no they really did do it' No quotes and screenshots equals no decisions. And the 'everyone one else did it so why did I get modded' crap won't cut it either. Unless you really want us to mod everyone that so much as puts a toe out of line. Everyone is so certain what they are posting is right and justified and that other guy? Well he should be modded and banned not them since clearly there is a difference in the temperature of the flames. And if a mod takes exception to your temperature he is the biased one. You all go on about equality yet I am not seeing many users treating other users as their equals. Let alone the mods who are first and foremost users of the boards with as much rights as the next poster.

Mods have had grief for not posting and still modding. Posting and modding. And in some cases even posting and NOT modding. If there was some consensus on an actual problem then maybe things would be fixed. But all I see is biased users taking out frustrations on a group they can see without much basis.

From here on out it will be a case by case basis. If you cannot give evidence to the admins of actual mod abuse please don't bother. Apart from editing we can see what happens. All posts go to a trash board. We have a stable admin with tech ability who actually shows up. Got a difficulty direct it at him. And quit with all the personal insults. It is solving nothing and only creates more bad feeling.
