This forum is to point out issues that we have with the mods. Then, when we make those topics, they get locked because everyone wasn't being nice.
Not only that, but the topics that stay open are:
A topic where Usurper basically calls Brent Black a dick, whcih has nothign to do with how he uses his mod privelages.
A joke topic about the Dei jokes that happened a while ago
A topic talking about how awesome Morm is
And a topic talking about the need to validate people, which is the only topic tha thas anything to do with mods or admins that stayed open. I'm convinced it's only open because it was such a simple problem to fix that there was no need to lock the topic and pretend it never happened.
The only topics that are locked are a "FIRST!" topic and two topics that actually have something to do with the mods, which is what this board is for.
It just seems like if we're going to have this board, we need to actually let the users voice their opinions. Otherwise, it's kind of a useless addition to the forum, don't you think?

That kinda reminds me of in seventh grade when I would get in trouble. If it was a yard duty or a teacher I didn't have, or somebody who didn't really know me I'd just say "It's under control," and make it sound convincing, and they'd look puzzled and walk off instead of writing me up. Only one time I did that and my friends started laughing and the bitch caught on.
Well, that's not really the same, but.........>_>
I did notice a lot of deleted posts (at least one of which was mine) in that topic that were retarded and had nothing to do with it, though. Then again, that kind of IS 404. So they belong there. Yeah.

As far I can see the starters of each closed topic that was closed got their answers.
I presume one will have the admins coming back to it at some point (judging by what was actually said in it) and the other was closed by who actually started it which is his personal choice and there is a clear statement at the end of the topic.
No one has been stopped from making topics on this board so not quite seeing what the problem is here.

In all seriousness. This is what should happen.
1. Rules are just guidelines. They should be there but loosely followed.
2. No one should be "perma-banned". Post banned for a day or two is one thing, as some of us freak out and need to chill out for awhile.
3. Mods (as much as I love most of them) need to delete less topics and posts. This is 404, ya know, it's not some serious forums. We're all immature, annoying and dumb. This will never change.
4. Making fun of people should be allowed. This is not some equal garden of eden. This is just like any other largish social group, we have our groups and we choose people to single out and make fun of. If you can't take it (it's fucking online, jesus people), then leave. No one gets picked on all that long anyways.
5. Mods aren't the fucking bosses, they are, if anything, janitors. They clean up the boards, make them neat and tidy, and if someone poops on the sink, they wipe it up.
6. Mods should be switched every so often. People get burnt out, people hold grudges and make friends. It's only fair. It would help make everyone more equal too, as in modship wouldn't be some big prize, it would be more like jury duty.
This place is turning into gamedaily more and more everyday. It just shows how people use power to try to conform the populous. Remember everyone, this should be a board by the people, for the people.

Most topics I see, both here and on suggestions that point out a problem with the mods and get closed all follow a pattern. It starts with a civil topic, the mods deny there is any sort of problem and imply that we're some sort of inferior beings who couldn't possibly understand mod things, and then it spirals out of control and gets closed.
Not saying you...I actually like you as a mod, just the mod base in general.

1. Rules are there for a reason, not so we can ignore them and do as we please. Kind of defeats the purpose eh? Who gets to decide how "loosely" they are followed?
2. People are perma-banned for breaking rules. If they constantly have to be post banned for a day or two why not just get rid of them altogether?
3. Speak for yourself, you may be immature, dumb and annoying but I'm not. At least I try not to be.
4. Making fun of people is allowed, if both parties agree. If you and I make fun of each other it's cool, but if I just start making fun of someone at random it isn't.
5. Mods ARE the bosses, they enforce the rules that were made so we don't turn into the shitfest we've been as of late.
6. Would you want to go through the mod learning period each time? I don't think so.

1. This isn't a serious place. Like I said, the rules are more of guidelines. They aren't the fucking law.
2. No one should get perma-banned. There's no reason for it. We've ALL been comming here for years. It's not like we have any influx of new people acting crazy. Why get rid of anyone? You don't like them, tough shit. That's life.
3. Everyone here is immature, dumb and annoying, whether you try not to be or whatever.
4. That sounds like something someone who got beat up in school would say.
5. Mods aren't bosses (well they are right now) but they shouldn't be. They don't need to enforce anything. And what do you mean by "shitfest"? The drama? People actually posting? I'm sure the 3 months of surveys were fucking heaven.
6. I never said everyone should be mods. I said, mods should switch in and out. Having the same people in "control" for long periods of time always fucks up shit in the long run. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have a breath of fresh air for awhile. And how hard can it be to "learn to be a mod". Jesus Christ. They aren't anyone special. They're the same idiots as everyone else. Elucidarius, I honestly don't understand why you take 404 so seriously. We're just a forum. Hell, I don't know if you remember, but we were a spinoff forum of LUE, for Christsake. We don't represent an actual website anymore, so there's no need to maintain a corporate image. We're just a gathering of people on a social board. You don't see the equivelant of mods at a party telling everyone what to do unless somebody is about to fight someone.
Unless shit is getting serious, there's no need for mods "O you posted a random picture, modded." "You bumped an old topic, modded." "Song lyrics? NOT IN MY HOUSE! POSTBAN!" Unless it actually becoms a serious problem, there's no need to enforce it...I personally think we police ourselves pretty well.
You sound like the guy at my high school who's job it was to guard the exit door to the cafeteria and make sure nobody came in through it. "HEY! GO AROUND!" "...I just saw like 5 people go through here." "GO AROUND! IT'S THE RULE! WE HAVE TO HAVE RULES, OTHERWISE IT'D BE TOTAL ANARCHY!"

Ok, I'm a bit fucked up. That's why I'm not making very much sense. But I hate you right now.
Surveys are fucking lame. You're the minority here. Most immature and crazy shit should be moved to the fort, where ANYTHING should be allowed. Topics should not be deleted as much as they are. As much as I love Dei, I'm sure she goes delete happy every now and then. To get more mods would be foolish. We have more then enough as it is. Mods should be switched, seriously. The mods who mod now can still mod later, they are just taking a break with no pay. And Dante got banned for something a few of us did. I personally did a lot of shit, and never got more than a wrist slap (probably because I get along with all the mods and Dante doesn't) which is bullshit.
Basically more than anything, the mods really need to switch it up. Let some other (worthy mature people) have a chance at it for awhile. It might breath some fresh air into the place.

Not taking it seriously =\= not caring, if that makes any sense. I'm not taking the place seriously, I'm just getting sick of coming here and seeing that it's being taken seriously. I care about the forum, but I don't think it's a place where we should have to act professional.
...but you want the staff to be more so...? Wut?
My mind. She melts!
Seriously though, any system takes a while to have the corners bumped off it and everyone to settle into it. This has got weirdly 'IT'S A CONSPIRACY' and an odd panic that everyone is about to get modded up the wazoo if they so much as bend over to tie their shoes.
But it hasn't happened. And it isn't going to happen. I couldn't even tell you the last person I warned let alone postbanned. It doesn't actually happen as often as is thought that is certain. People keep commenting about humour and letting folks take the piss but every time a mod does it there is an OMGSMODABUSE thing or OMGSYOUTAKEITSOSEEERIOUS thing going on (my post in Wenches closed topic is a great example. I was talking about puppies. PUPPIES.) What is with that? It can't be the minute we have access to more drop down menus our senses of humour suddenly grow too subtle for you. Far from it I suspect after some of modly comedy editing going on in the past.
Dunno, this whole thing seems as mad as the proverbial cheddar. You buggers owe me
vodka a box of tea, I bloody finished one this week.

I realize this might come off sounding sarcastic or like I'm a shit but it is a serious question and I'm not trying to be smart or whatever. How long does a box of tea normally last you? I don't like tea.

It isn't for everyone. Though Americans with their lack of electric kettles make it with hot not boiling water and that makes it taste rank. And I am happy to talk about tea since it is more fun than board angst really.
Box of 100 standard bags lasts a couple of weeks in this place. 3 if I am not feeling grumpy. This week I have been ill and tired so pretty much sloshing as I move. On the upside all the caffeine and what not makes me look positively peppy! Hopefully that bit will wear off. Excessive cheeriness worries my family and they start to think I am up to something. Or drinking vodka.

Wow, is that what
should happen?
That's pretty much how things have been run since this iteration was started. There is some rift in the mods regarding how the board should behave, and there probably always will be, which is good, because it means nothing will ever change too much in one direction or the other. I like to encourage insults and a more liberal atmosphere, so it's probably good that there are different views to counterbalance that.
So, that's mostly how things have been going. Number 6 is obviously a stupid idea, for an assortment of reasons, which I'll just assume you are too cracked out to understand.
In closing, yes, no one should take this shit too seriously. That goes both ways, both in the mods and more-importantly, in the people getting moderated. You clowns are the ones who seem to go into big hypocritical rants every time you get smacked a little. We should be free to use our judgment in post-banning people anywhere from 1 hour to 3 days... and not giving a shit about how much a day off a message board is ruining your mediocre life.

If this place is "going to hell" because of a couple insignificant mod decisions over posts that really don't matter all that much, you whiners are going to be the ones who take it there.

Because it's no one's fault, this board is just never gonna be like it was in 2003. People are just bored so they invent stuff to bitch about, including petty modding decisions that have little to no effect on anything.
Accept it and just ride it out for what it's worth. Whether this board "ends" tomorrow or in a few more years, it's had a good run and we've kept our stability up quite well. Time to leave the mods alone.

I dunno. It had it's times. It was pretty decent in the days when you were off living on the streets, giving handjobs to crack dealers.
The chat kids never really contributed anything of entertainment to the site, they mainly just added their "fuck the police" drama and assorted memes they stumbled upon while masturbating on 4chan. SO WACKY.
