Err, I just got a TV too. Got this one:
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/lcdtv/n3735w/

Viewsonic also has a 42" one with 1080p support too, but it wouldn't fit in my room and besides, I'm not a big picky person in terms of p and i.

Also Viewsonic is dirt cheap. Mine i got for under $1000.

Depends on how much you want to spend. Personally, at the end of the summer I'm buying this:

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LNT4065F-108...V/dp/B000OE02G4

It's well received pretty much everywhere I've looked, has an amazing Amazon price (it's like $2000-2200 everywhere else), and it is currently CNET's highest rated LCD TV.

If you're looking at stats, make sure it has a good response time (8s is the highest acceptable speed for gaming I'd say) and a high contrast ratio.

ok how about like the cheapest tv that's small and easy to carry into a dorm room? >_>

1080p is really a waste on anything below 40 inches, there's no noticeable difference between 720 and 1080 unless you're like 2 feet from the screen or something.
