What do you think should have been the new seven wonders of the world? I think the main criteria or limitations for these were that it had to be man-made and "in an acceptable state of preservation". Here's the rest of the criteria.

First off I think some of the stuff on the list was bogus. I had no idea what Petra was. Manchu Picchu was all well and good but I think there were more sites deserving. Statue of Christ Redeemer is huge and recognizable but I would have picked something else.

I do agree on Taj Mahal, Colosseum and Great Wall of China. Chichen Itza is iffy but I think it deserves it.

Here's my list that should be the New 7 Wonders of the World
1. Pyramids & the Sphinx in Egypt
2. Colosseum in Italy
3. Stonehenge in England
4. Taj Mahal in India
5. Chichen Itza in Mexico
6. Great Wall of China
7. Statue of Liberty in America

I pretty much agree with your list but I might want to add the Hagia Sophia, don't know what I'd get rid of though.

And I thought the natural wonders of the world were already settled.

Stonehenge is neat but not a wonder imo

Tell that to Sid Meier tongue.gif.

I forgot about the Pantheon.

There was a thread about this at neoGAF, apparently the Egyptian government thought that the pyramids of Giza were "above" this little internet poll and decided to not even allow the pyramids to be a choice. However, the organization that organized (lols) all of this gave the pyramids a guaranteed "honorary status" on the list in return automatically.

There was a bit more too it but I don't remember.

I think the Jesus statue in Brazil kicks the Statue of Liberty's ass in awesomeness/size, and I'm not even religious.

You didn't know what Petra was?! It was in Indiana Jones! It is beautiful - one of the places I want to see one day.

Why? It has questions about it like the pyramids. No one knows what it was used for or how they figured out how to lay the stones and lift them on top of each other. Or even how they got the stones right across the country because they aren't local to the area they are in. As far as they can figure a lot of people must have dragged them.

I think Skara Brae should have got an honourable mention.

If it were up to me, I'd put Versailles on that list.

Umm I'd say that along with the pyramids it's one of the ones most deserving of the title. I mean Statue of Liberty? Ok it's nice and has some cultural significance but there's nothing incredible about it. The stones for the Stonehenge weigh what, 50 tons each? And they were dragged using supposedly nothing but bare hands and pulley systems. That and it shows that people 5000 years ago had a pretty good understanding of astronomy. That's pretty fucking impressive if you ask me. Things like the Colosseum and Taj Mahal might have a lot of cultural significance but I wouldn't say there's anything incredible about them.

And I didn't know that Petra was a real location, I thought they just made that up for the Indiana Jones movie. So it's like a whole temple that was carved inside a stone wall?

Look at the previous seven the statue of Zeus is depicted as an ordinary statue just big. yes how it was made makes it special, however the Colosseum was manufactured shortly in history. after that you also have to understand that it has had many different uses even being filled up for mock sea battles. and with it being created only shortly after the original seven wonders its ability to survive this long should grant it a spot.

Yeah, I guess some of the original seven wonders weren't that impressive either.

XD Manchu! Anyways Machu Picchu is definitely deserving of being one of the seven wonders. Why? For its architectual, engineering, and cultural significance. And cause Peru is fucking cool.

I frankly don't agree with the Christ Redeemer being a Wonder of the world. Seriously, It's big and imposing but meh. I don't know really, I haven't been there.

Pfft, it's not hollow, you can't climb to the top, and it's Jesus in a country filled with sin. If Jesus was real he would have made that statue cry a river of bloody tears by now. Fuck it.

That's beside the point. Religion goes in the other topic.

Besides, its way more impressive than the Statue of Liberty.

What about Easter Island?

Has anyone here seen the Colosseum in person?

In all honesty, as cool as it sounds, it's a pretty lame site to see.

It's not that big. It's not that crazy in the inside. I know it's been through a lot of destruction and it's old as hell, but still...I've seen a lot cooler shit than the Colosseum.

I think Cathedrals like St Peters or Notre Dame are way cool. Hell even in Rome there are cooler sites than the Colosseum...but then again maybe it's just me.
Master Bob
I've seen the Colosseum. I liked it.
