So I'm not done reading it yet but I'm already in love so I'm making a thread.
In the author's words, the book is an attempt to explain how it is that animate life can arise out of inanimate matter. He takes a lot of concepts from music art and math, such as the cocnepts of figure and ground, isomorphisms, recursive structures, and formal systems in general and in his own way shows how they are at work in our awareness. The other questions that arise are generally about the nature of intelligence and what sets a true intelligence apart from the artificial ones we've tried to create.
If you have any interest whatsoever in matters of the mind (not just artificial intelligence) you owe it to yourself to check this out.
You can get this book from Oink, if you have an account. If you don't, tell me and I'll download it and upload it somewhere.
