I got rid of the soundcard because I realized that the mobo had plugs for my 5.1 speakers. I made a few other little changes, and got it below 1000.
I'm planning on overclocking the cpu, and I was wondering about how far I can get it before i need more than stock cooling.
For gaming and other graphics intensive applications, you'll
always get better performance by taking the sound off-board. Overclocking is good for stretching out your e-penis, but in terms of practical use, you're much better off trying to find a happy medium between
all the components of your system. A high number in your BIOS means shit when you're still not getting the framerates you can be.
If you really want to overclock, then you need to stress the cpu and gpu with applications like 3dmark that will raise the running temperatures of your components to ensure you're getting a capable setting at peak usage. Running too hot may not shut down the chips, but it sure as hell will slow them down.
