My trusty old 9800 pro is shitting out on me, there are lines and my screen is now fucking up a lot. I think it's probably overheating or something.

Anyways, what's a cheap card that will give me the same results as my old 9800 pro to tide me over until I build a new PC?

AGP?

its better than a 9800, but i figure if you wanted another 9800 you'd get one. i'm not too sure what the xt means, but 6800s in general are solid cards.

That's a little more than I'd like to spend for a temporary card really.

yeah for sure before you buy anything, update the drivers, or reinstall them or something.

you aren't going to find anything new that'll come close to your 9800 pro if you can't spend 80 bucks

and the 6800 XT isn't better than the 9800 pro anyway, the 6800 XT has 4 less pipelines than a vanilla 6800

there's an X800 GTO that's OOS right now that's an open box product for $63:

You can also unlock some 6800 XT pipes, 4-8 I hear.

Would a 9600 pro with 256mb (vs the 9800 pro 128mb I have now) be better or worse?
Orbital
the 9600 would be a lot worse. 128 bit vs 256 bit, slower ram, half the pipelines all around. the extra ram wont mean shit.

but if you did get a 6800 xt and you were able to unlock the disabled pipelines it'd be good
