Alright, I've got a cable modem and a wired router that leads to my desktop PC. I also use this same cord for my 360. My problem is that it seems like I'm resetting my router every day because I either can't log onto XBL or the connection for this PC gets fucked (it only seems to be mine but I don't think it's the cord). My connection seems to reset itself a lot which I tend to notice during direct downloads and stuff. It happens a lot during the early morning when I'm not on the PC, too. The biggest issue is that every time I connect to my 360 and then bring the cord back to my PC, my IP address magically goes up a number and I have to forward my fucking ports for DC++ and uTorrent again. I end up cycling through like 5 IP addresses a day which doesn't make sense at all.
I'm just wondering if there's something I can do on my own. I'm trying to find someone with a network cable tester so I can see if this long, expensive (of course it's this one) cord is not working correctly. But other than that I have no idea what to do other than tell cable to go fuck themselves and get FiOS.

assign a static ip to your computer?

stop using the same damn cable for your shit too, that's why you have a router :(

But then I have to buy another expensive, long cable and run in through two stories and two rooms. cry.gif
How does one assign a static IP? I ask just in case I haven't figured it out by the next time I read this topic.

I had to do this a few weeks ago and it didn't work, but I'm fairly certain it's an issue with my router. Might work for yours though.

Well I think buying a cable (you can get a 100 foot cable for like $15 online, don't buy it in a store cuz they charge a lot more) and running it once seems a lot more sensible than running a cable back and forth every time you want to use the other piece of hardware. Either that or buy a wireless nic for your pc.

Well my 360 and PC are 3 feet apart. The static IP thing may have fixed it but I only tested it once. Thanks for the help guys.
