I love it thus far. It's much darker and heavier, less emphasis on the ballads.

Good, balladity (XD) is what makes power metal too cheesy. I'm stoked.
EDIT: I find it hard to believe there isn't already an album called paradise lost...

The album's a concept on the story of Paradise Lost, so even if there is, it's no big deal.
And REAL power metal goes through Symphony X. As much as I like Dragonforce, their Mega Man stuff doesn't hold a candle to this style.

Oh cool, thanks.
What kills power metal for me is the overly-utilized high fantasy themes and lack of... well, metal. Some German/Italian/Finnish/inserteuropeannationality guy shouting "KIILLLL THE DRAGON, SWORDS GLEAM IN THE NIGHT" kinda shit gets old quick, especially when riffs and energy are compromised to fit in keyboard faggotry and ballad snoozefests. Symphony X's music and themes have always been palatable.

This is the best front-to-back album they have ever released. Yes, I think it's better than V. Odyssey and DWOT have a few better individual songs, but also some much worse songs.
Maybe I'll even buy this one when it comes out. Too bad it'll be way too expensive, like all SX albums...

Set the World on Fire is such an incredible song. "I WILL FORSAKE YOU, DESTROY AND UNMAKE YOU!"
Russell Allen is my man-crush.

Though there's less emphasis on the ballads, the title track is one of the most beautiful tracks they've ever written.
Michael Romeo is a genius.

my favourite is the one after Paradise Lost. I also like the very first vocals of the album, the first few verses.
I literally LOL'd when i first heard the falsetto vocals.

I'm seeing them on Saturday and I get to interview fuckin' Michael Romeo in person.
I'm so stoked.
