I think it's about time we made a website. We've always talked about it, but never organized and actually put forth some effort. I think we have enough talented and creative people here that we could create something cool. Doesn't have to be anything innovative. Just a site that would be easy for us to contribute content to.
This could be our way of driving new members to the boards (I don't care if you hate this idea). I figure a site based around our kind of content would bring in better members than a site like GameDaily.

I agree. I'm afraid I can't really suggest what kind of site, though.

Well, first thoughts seem to lead to.... a general movies/music/news/art/sports review type site. Make it simple and sexy looking. For example in the movies section: have members offer reviews, links to trailers and news, screenshots. Yadda yadda yadda.
Or make each section have its own blog-like main page where we can update it.
Whatever, just off the top of my head.

Blog page I say about anything with user-driven content.
perhaps . . .So everyone sumbits an article, and people vote on the article they enjoy the most and whoever gets the most vote's article is featured.
Now if soemone ebgins to dominate than they canhave their own section.
Eh?

If we start up a site, we'll have a hard time attracting advertisers. The upload topic is technically illegal, and the movies/tv subforum also contains illegally uploaded content. We can ride on Morm's hosting and webspace a hell of a lot longer if we just stay as a forum.

I think this is a great idea, but Taped's objects might have some merit.

Google ads, biatch. And I'd love to contribute in a writing capacity.
I see movies enough to maybe contribute if there were a movie review thing, if this idea were to go through.
I like the idea of a site but I'm not sure how willing I'd be to contribute myself, heehee.

A group blog effort on countless different topics of interest that's completely segregated from the forums would draw all kinds of people. It wouldn't attract anyone to the forums due to the segregation, but the forum can still profit off of the advertising and add it to the funds already being generated.

I like the idea of a separate website, a lot. When I have some time and peace of mind I really want to see this happen. I want to know everyone who honestly thinks they'd like to take a shot at writing some material for this place. Nothing official at this point, I'm not going to make a topic or anything yet.

Right here, no doubt. I'd love to get involved with something like that.
EDIT: I can even help with design and implementation, and would be willing to front some cash to get it running.

I am not sure that a site is needed. Word of mouth does great!

Well, a successful site would require it's own community or at least interaction with its visitors. So at the very least we need to allow visitors to submit blog comments or reviews. But it would be nice if the site did have its own little board. Which most of us here could moderate and pump some life into.
But whatever the site is....it's gotta be snappy. It's gotta look sharp and have a good idea behind it.
Regardless, I say we start brainstorming NOW. Just start throwing out any ideas, big or small. Or post examples of websites for content and design ideas.
We have a lot of people here that have stuff to offer. I'm sure someone is good at designs. Wasn't Peter doing a show or still is? I'm sure we could feature him somehow. And with all the people that see movies and find new music...I'm sure we can make a site that's ahead of the rest.
I can't think of anything unique for a site idea but I'll be thinking.

Maybe we should move this into the Lounge to get some more ideas generated. Get the ball rolling.

I say we add a creativity section. You know, user submitted stories, drawings, pictures, etc etc. Maybe one a day can be somewhere on the front page, chosen by whoever runs the section.

I don't have many coattails. Honestly. And now that I think more about it, I have barely any time... My own website gets neglected for weeks at a time sometimes.
