I downloaded DivX codec from the divX site, but when i play videos on this computer, the visuals are much darker than they should be. the sound is fine. is there another codec/codec pack that can fix this?

Did it on VLC, too.
But the problem was actually with my video card drivers. It's solved, now.

if you are going to be recommending codec packs at least recommend good ones.
CCCP is not what I would call good. it's okay, not good.

The CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) is a DirectShow filter pack specifically built for playing anime
It's limited design nature, while I doubt it will be a problem can be interesting . . .
DefilerPak pwns . . . it hasn't been updated in almost a year and a half, but it is still valid.

I prefer AC3/Xvid/DivX. That's all I really need for what I watch (downloaded TV shows and movies).

What's limited or not good about the cccp? There hasn't been a single file that I haven't been able to play, anime or not. Just cuz it's "primarily for viewing anime" doesn't mean it is incapable of other shit. The defilerpak is fine too though.

CCCP bad? WTF are you on? It plays everything except shitty realplayer files. Not only does it come with everything that you need to play all formats from .avi to x.264 mkv encodes, but it also excludes all the crap that you don't need.

Yeah, CCCP is the way to go. I keep VLC for the off-chance doesn't work, but so far I've encountered nothing that VLC could play that CCCP couldn't.

Alright sorry for lightly bashing CCCP. I am now better informed and as such beleive CCP is on par with defiler Pack.

I have yet to encounter anything VLC couldn't play, and it has a fantastic interface.

VLC's pretty cool, but I prefer the interface of GOM. Both of them have played everything I've tried, though.
