Hey guys, We'd like your input on the issue of contests and site promotions. I was never really too keen on following the different promotions offered up at Gamedaily, partly because none of them ever came to anything in the end. We'd like things to be different here. I've got a method of generating revenue in place, please give that a look HERE. If you all follow this, and keep it up, within a month or two I'll say we'd be able to come up with some pretty nice possiblities.

What I'd like to know is what you all would like to see of this. A few thoughts that came to me were maybe contests involving online multiplayer games with the prizes being anything from t-shirts to video games to computer or gaming hardware. There could also be artistic contests such as poetry, storytelling, songwriting, who knows, the sky's the limit. Let me hear your ideas.

Nothing forced on the members like GD tried to, but we can have a trial process, nothing too serious, so we don't get disappointed.

Hmm, I definately think Photoshop should be a part of it since a lot of the 404 members seem pretty big into it. Maybe fire up some Gunbound matches, or Counter Strike.

I'm not really down for anything with Photoshop. It's a little played out and hardly goes anywhere. I doubt it should be anything artistic since it would be weird judging art (at least in my eyes).

I'll think of some actual suggestions later.

"Make each topic in the form of a poll with two choices, one being positive and the other negative. The results are used to gauge interest in each idea, and are not a determining factor in whether or not the feature will be implemented."

follow your own fucking rules.

I'd be down with a photoshop contest. Remember, there's a free solution now, too, so no one can complain about people without Photoshop being excluded.

The gimp has been around forever, not sure how long the windows port has been around. In any case, it would still be really biased towards people who have skills in graphic design. This should have as level a playing field as possible.

GIMp has been around forever on windows.

They tried to force stuff on us?

All I remember was the errors contest, which had a couple of announcements, I suppose. But failed miserably. I still think I should've won that.

No, there was also that caption contest. A couple of people tried that one, but then they never announced the outcome or anything zany like that.

I don't have too much input, just to say that contests are a plus.

How would you go about deciding winners, though? A poll topic?

Mostly interested in the writing and gaming ones, even though I've never had a game I was great at (I got pretty decent at Gunbound, but that was early 2004, and I didn't go to 404 till the middle of that year), and I don't write much. I want to, though.

Kinda want to try poetry>_>

There were some other contests at GD. I know I spent quite a few hours working on submissions for some. One I DEFINATELY should have won, but it never ended.

YAY! I finally found the picture!

I'm not completely opposed to photoshop, but there should be other stuff too at least. Not everyone (including myself) knows what they're doing with it.

Just found my entry. We were given a Guitar Hero picture to edit, or something like that:

So are the contests not going to happen, since we have no revenue? And do we not know of any other ways to get revenue?

So... where's my prize?
