True, it's all about what's in your head. I constantly forget how old I am. I have to think for a minute when someone asks. Even then, sometimes I want to say a different number (usually younger) because I've forgotten how many birthdays have passed.

Trick question! Its only a number until you get arrested for fucking a 7 year old, at which point "he was really mature" won't cut it.

False, otherwise there wouldn't be laws about pedophilia and child molestation, and a 2 year old would be mature enough to vote, drink, smoke, go to war and be convicted for stealing. Anyone who says age is just a number isn't thinking about their answer.

Those laws exist to protect people who most of the time aren't able to defend themselves (or don't even know what's being done to them) from people who would take advantage of them. If age as a concept didn't exist it'd still be fucking wrong to touch a kid because anyone can tell you that it's not right to have sex with an infant or toddler.

No they wouldn't because they haven't the intelligence to vote (and y'know, they can barely speak), they aren't physically able to fight a war, alcohol and smoking would still be detrimental to their health, and they'd have no concept of the law to know that stealing was wrong.

The question is too complicated to give a true or false answer. There is a lot to consider.

Come on, you
know there's assumed drawn lines around the discussion. The people saying true are basically saying that age is not relative of maturity/doesn't matter as much as people think it does - not saying we should go out and fuck 4 year olds, and braff lines of coke with a 2 year old. You know what we mean, don't make it more complicated.

Exactly. They can't defend themselves and they don't know better because they're not old enough to. They can't physically fight a war because they aren't developed enough to yet, drinking and smoking is extra bad for them because their bodies aren't yet able to process it the way an adult's would. They can't speak because they haven't yet developed that intelligence. They haven't developed that intelligence because they haven't had enough life experience yet, which can also be explained as they aren't old enough, aka their age. Age isn't just a number, it's a representation.

false. Igoring the fact that a lot of laws are based on age (smoking, drinking, sexual consent, etc. whether you agree with it or not, they are laws, and are based on age, and are out of your control to change), you can tell a lot about a person based on their age. Someone who is younger is more likely to be immature and naive, whereas someone who is a bit older has "life" wisdom, and will usually be more mature. Employers look at this, which is why a lot of young people (17-18) aren't hired on for skilled labour at companies (As opposed to non-skilled labour - repatitive tasks, basic line work, etc).
And even though it's legal, it isn't very socially acceptable for a 37 year old to be dating an 18 year old. It's fully legal and they are both consenting adults, but you can't escape the fact that it's looked at strangely by society. Obviously if this situation occurs, the maturity levels of the two people are going to be a lot closer than 19 years, but age doesn't tell that. And people don't judge you based on maturity level. They judge you based on age.
