Yes, there is a certain amount that you have to earn before you have to file taxes. I made just over $3000 last year and I never filed taxes.

You can file taxes no matter what amount, I think...although some amounts are so miniscule that it isn't worth it. I'm not sure if past a certain amount it's a requirement to file taxes.

Anyway, why wouldnt you want to file taxes. My mom does my shit...but I'm pretty sure that for the miniuscule amounts that we probably make still results in some extra cash from the government. I think James got around 1k back. I got around 400 back.

I'm pretty sure at 6000 or 7000 you have to file them. But you don't for $2000

It's $400 if you're self-employed. sad.gif

$8,450 for a single person.

I made like $9000. Between federal and state I got about $1200 back.

If you're no longer claimed as a dependent by your parents, then it's in your best interest to file, since you'll get more back than you contributed through the Earned Income Tax Credit. Even if you don't qualify, why would you just let the government have 20% of your pay for no good reason, regardless of how much you made?

I made $3200 interning for the government and I had to pay taxes.
