Full Version: How much do you care about the condition of your books?

I kind of realized yesterday when a friend of mine asked to borrow I, Lucifer that...I care way too much about the condition of my books. I know that if I got it back from her, that the cover would be torn, and the pages mangled. One of my other friends has a copy of the same book, and it is absolutely trashed. It makes me weep on the inside to see it. Funny thing is, the cover is more important to me then the pages. If the pages get bent, no big deal. When it's closed, no one can tell. But eventually these pages will turn yellow, and the cover will be all that remains of it's former condition, so I feel like I must at least preserve that.

What about you guys?

I never care about the spines which seems to be a thing with people. I can't stand not being able to open a book properly to read it. I don't fold pages to mark places and I will try not to drop my tea on it but on the whole a well read book to me looks like a loved one.

I never finished I,Lucifer. I should do that.

As long as pages aren't ripped out, I don't care. I don't care if the spine is bent, I like being able to hold my book comfortably.

exactly.

I don't care about the condition of the books. I take care of them, of course, but if I lend one to somebody and it comes back in disrepair I don't think twice about it. I actually kinda know that that's going to happen when I lend them out, because those are the kind of douche bags I hang out with>_>

I felt a little bad when I borrowed a book from Bolt a while back and folded the page corners without thinking about it, though. Some people get mad about that stuff. I doubt he would, but I still shouldn't have done it without asking. Of course I never mentioned it, and he probably won't read this, so bahahahahahahahaha.

I don't fold the pages or write in my books. It makes me feel disrespectful. If they happen to bend or something, I am mad for like a minute, but there's nothing I can do about it, so I shut up. But I take very good care of them, and I never fold paperback books backwards because I hate that. I can read them just fine without doing that.

Also, I don't let people borrow books. Back when I did, either I never got them back, or I did and they looked terrible. Sooo...no2u.

I don't care if corners are bent or spines get tiny lines in them; this is bound to happen after just 1 read-through. I own a grand total of 6 books. I get new material from the library. You can't argue with free books.

75% of my books are pre-owned/old so I'm not really picky at all when it comes to condition.
The only thing that really irks me with any book is when the spine is broken. I hate that.

For school, i dont write or highlight in my books, if absolutely neccesary I use pencil to underline. I insert sticky notes to write notes, and i use the colorful flags to indicate a page with important info. The funny thing is, I haven't sold back any of my books. I just can't do it. Its like I dont feel like scraping up an extra 500$

For my causual reading paperback collection, whatever goes. Usually they don't even make it to a book shelf. They live on my floor or in boxes.

I'm not picky about the condition of my books, but I would be annoyed if someone else folded a paperback's cover back all the time when they read it, or if they fucked up the spine. Or anything that makes it so you can't read it, obviously.

I die a little inside if the cover even gets a little bent.

I feel you, but only when it's a brand new book. Like I said most of my books are pre-owned so what can you do, but when I buy a book I don't let anyone else read it.

Ehh....a little wear is fine, just so I can read it. I would prefer if it were in mint condition, but I know that won't happen.

However, I flip out inside when I find in my backpack that the inside pages got bent.

I try to keep te condition of my books as optimal as possible. I am disappointed when a page bends, but it happens. Mostly keeping the cover intact and the spine in the best condition possible is my number one priority.

I actually enjoy when my books look worn. It means they've been properly appreciated as often as possible.
