Let me first tell of my back history......

4 years ago my shoulder/back (upper right aread around the blade) felt out of place and it would like tense my whole body, that went away after a few weeks. After that when I would do shrugs with like a bench bar I would sometimes get sharp painful pinches around the inside close to my neck in my traps.

So that has been going on for quite a while. This past summer while moving a TV, I'm pretty sure I threw my back out because I couldn't move and fell over and then my body kept tensing up over the next 24 hours making breathing difficult.

So I was good untill about November when my traps around the shoulderblade area just felt out of place, it hurt to the point where it felt tensed up and for all I know I looked like a hunch back. I took two months off of lifting and then resumed my normal routine. Then the same problem occured, had this guy give me a back workout/massage and I started to feel better.

Then 2 weeks ago for finals, my traps around my neck and down to my arms were tense (probably from staring straight down for periods up to6 hours studying). I went back to that guy yesterday he gave me a workover, I feel a bit better, kind of sore. And tomorrow I'm going back again.

My question is what can I do to keep my muscles from getting aligned poorly. The guy who has been working on my back has just told me to stretch and drink water and don't try to go ape shit in the gym.

I feel like an old man with back problems (I also have knee problems, but that's another story). Is Yoga good? He mentioned Tai Chi......are there videos online somewhere for this kind of shit?

Any help is appreciated.

yea videos online for tai chi, if your not afraid of torrenting you can definitely find something. and yes, yoga is good . . . I'm not so sure with your specific situation but it is definitely good and won't hurt.

Just to ask, you are working out your chest/abs as much as your back, yes?

Hav you seen your doctor about it?

No I haven't seen a doctor yet because I feel it's a problem I can deal with.

And I don't work out my abs really that much because for some reason I have a natural 6 pack, don't ask how.

But I work out my back/chest/shoulder equally. ALthough at one point I'm sure, like any other kid who gets hooked on lifting weights, early in my lifting I probably did a lot more chest to get a better bench press, but I've been doing things a lot more even now days though.
