Dice-K's WHIP is better than every pitcher in the Red Sox rotation except for Josh Beckett. You won't say shit about Curt Schilling or Tim Wakefield, though, with their hugely important veteranosity to consider.

lol @ blue jays. taking 1 of 3 from the Rays, including a 9th inning collapse to lose a 4-1 ballgame 5-4. Then they did it again tonight against the Tigers. Maybe if that Johnson out (It -was- a flyout, was shown on replay) had not been blown, maybe we'd have taken it.
and this is why we aren't a playoff team. But no surprise, Johnny Mac had another amazing defensive game. Getting rid of him would only be stupid. It's not like he's the sole reason our offence has been sucking; he's helping the team a LOT more with his D than he's hindering it with his crappy O.

Not even close. Good offense with bad defense helps a team much, MUCH more than good defense with bad offense helps it. McDonald is a career .240/.278/.315 hitter. That is 44% WORSE than league average. And if you buy into WARP3, he's worth 3.5 wins with his defense. If anything, his defense evens out what he lacks in offense, it doesn't contribute more. He's an asset to his team, but if I were the Blue Jays GM, I would look for an upgrade in my outfield and corners before I resigned him.
He's in his 30s now and his skills will only decline...they always do with defensive shortstops. He should be used as a platoon player, plain and simple, but he makes a lot of pretty catches and smiles a lot so people hail him as a God.

uh, do you realize that this is pretty commonplace in the sport? right? Game-to-game teams are going to have different starting pitchers, different starting fielders, and possibly different batting lineups.

20th round draft pick JR Towles with a team-record 8 RBI last night. He's a pretty good prospect. Bats over .300 routinely with a good OBP and 15-20 HR power from the catcher position. He's good behind the plate too. Not a superstar, but is he a massive offensive upgrade from Brad "GIDP" Ausmus? Oh yes.

Apparently the Giants aren't going to re-sign Barry Bonds next year
He'll probably play for the Angels since the A's dont need a DH with Cust who should not be playing in the outfield on anyone's team and with Piazza's AMAZING inability to stay healthy

I love the national league races. 4 games left to play and 7 teams are still in it. Right now its looking like the Mets, Diamondbacks, Cubs, and Padres as the wild card. At the end of the season for all we know it could be the Phillies, Padres, Brewers, and Rockies as the wild card. God I love baseball. Football doesn't have these type of post season races since they have so few games.

It's mostly because there is a lot more parity in baseball compared to the NFL. I remember reading that NFL games are by far the most predictable as far as outcome is concerned.
There are some crazy tiebreaker scenarios too, because there is sure to be at least one tie coming along by Sunday.
