The article outlines a deviant force which is called, hypothetically, dark energy (no connection to dark matter.) Dark, as a name, implies something beyond our powers of observation, and maybe even comprehension, as its supposed interaction with the matter that makes up our world is limited, and that the very type of matter (of every galaxy we've ever seen) that we interact with every day might only be a grease stain in the potentials of the universe. It leads one to wonder what sort of small scale influences it could have on us.
